"You have to tell Ruby, today" Anne whispered while taking off her coat before entering the crowded classroom. Gilbert nodded. He was nervous because telling Ruby meant breaking the poor girls heart. She had been hoping for so long. He was going to tell her after school, and the day ended too soon. "Hey Ruby, can we talk?" He asked as soon as they had left the building. She turned around and her eyes immediately shun up with hope and love. "Absolutely" she said with a smile and left her friends. They walked in to the forest, side by side, looking for a place where no one could her them. Gilbert just wanted to run away. "Why do she love me so darn much?" He thought. They sat down on a cliff. "Ruby..." Gilbert started, but she cut him off. "Yes, what did you want to talk about?"Ruby said with a smile, hoping to hear what she had wished for during the last five years. "This is really hard for me to say, but I've heard that you have liked me for a while?" Ruby nodded, still smiling. "Well the thing is, I don't feel the same for you. I really like you as a friend, you're a great girl, but I don't like you that way..." Ruby's smile disappeared. Tears was forming in her eyes. "I wasn't sure if telling you was the right thing to do, but I didn't want you to hope in vain because, well, I like somebody else. I'm so sorry." He put his arm around her but she stood up forcing it to fall off her. "So who do you like? It's Anne right?!" Her eyes were swollen, cheeks wet from tears. Heartbroken. "That's personal" Gilbert said quiet. He did not want her to know anything about him and Anne in that very moment. "Thank you for telling me Gilbert" Ruby said and took off. He shouted her name but she did not turn around. She didn't want to see him or anyone else in that moment. All she wanted was to cry.

"How did she take it?" Anne asked  when she saw Gilbert from the porch to green gables. "Not very well" Gilbert said and gave Anne a kiss. "But let's not talk about it, it just makes me sad to think about" Anne gave him a comforting hug. "Well Matthew is out of town and Marilla is visiting Rachel so we are all alone. Oh and I don't know where Jerry is, but he's not in the barn so I would suppose he's out working somewhere" Anne said with a smile on her pretty lips. "Perfect" Gilbert said and left his bag on the porch. It was a warm and sunny day, perfect to be outside. Anne  layed down in the soft green grass and read a book, as usual. Gilbert walked around in the garden, collecting flowers to a beautiful bouquet. "To my beautiful girlfriend" He said and layed down next to her. "Oh Gil they are beautiful!" She said and kissed him. "You really think so?" He said and tickled her on her waist. "Yes.... Yes I do!" She squealed between laughs. Letting go of her book and the flowers she started tickle the boy too and soon they were both part of a war. They rolled around on the ground, laughing and squealing while trying to win. "Stop it STOP IT!" Anne half screamed half laughed while Gilbert pulled her shoes off and tickled her under her feet. She kicked him in his stomach and climbed on top of him.

At the same time as this "war" started Marilla Cuthbert came him from Rachel Lynde. She was surprised to see a unknown bag on the porch, possibly belonging to a boy. She entered Green Gables, not a sound was to be heard. "Anne?" She shouted, but it remained quiet. "What in the world?" She mumbled to herself. She sat down in the kitchen, but suddenly heard a scream from outside. "Anne!" She thought and rushed to the window and opened it slightly. What she saw surprised her. There was Anne, playfully fighting with a boy. He took her shoes off and tickled her under her feet resulting in a great kick in his stomach. She climbed over him and shouted "I win!" The boy laughed. "Of course Carrots" He said, grabbed her by her red braids, pulled her head down and placed a kiss on her lips. "Oh my lord" Marilla said and sat down on a chair. "Oh my lord what did I just witness? Was that Gilbert Blythe?"

"Let's go inside and get something to eat" Anne said and took Gilberts hand in hers. They walked inside and into the empty kitchen, or at least she thought it was empty. "Marilla!" Anne said and released her grip around Gilberts hand while blushing. "I... we were... I was just..." Anne didn't know what to say, neither did Marilla or Gilbert. Saying it was awkward was a understatement. "Maybe I should leave..." Gilbert said and quickly left.

"Did you... Did you see us?" Anne asked and breaked the silence. "Anne. I'm not going to say or make you do anything, as long as you're happy then I'm glad for you." Marilla said and smiled. "Oh Marilla!" Anne said and gave her adoptive mother a hug. "Thank you".
