In Westerosi history and folklore, the Arrival of the First Men was told by maesters to young lords and ladies while they would be learning about the history of their continent. But there was a time before the War of the Five Kings, before Robert's Rebellion, before Aegon's Conquest. When the First Men came to Westeros by the Arm of Dorne, which was a land bridge that once linked the Southeastern part of Westeros and Southwestern part of Essos. But a few members of the First Men sailed across the Narrow Sea. Those men and their households were from all over Essos, like Valyria or Braavos or Myr, etc., not just the grasslands of Essos. Also known as the Dothraki Grass Sea.

The First Men made their way from Dorne all the way through Westeros. By the time the First Men made their way to the North, the members that came from the other parts of Essos were already there and making a life for themselves. The First Men started to cut down the weirwood trees, but the other members were cutting down other trees without the faces. These other men, they liked to refer themselves as "the nobles" while they referred the First Men as "savages". The nobles had made a deal with the Children of the Forest that they would leave the Children alone and not cut down their sacred trees, in return these men who teach the Children how to use currency among each other and how to read and write, along with many other things. The nobles benefitted from the Children and the Children benefitted from them. The nobles did not like to associate with the men of the grasslands.

Although the nobles came from different cities within Essos, they all followed one man and his wife, Lord Meryn Valyrrn and Lady Alysanne Valyrrn.  Four years later, Lord and Lady Valyrrn had built a small castle and a little village for their household, the other men or lords built their own holdfasts for themselves and their household. Then Lord Valyrrn and his wife welcomed their twins, Hunter and Tullian. Hunter was more of a Northern baby: dark hair, pale skin, and ice blue eyes. On the other hand, Tullian was more of a Southern baby: auburn hair, tan skin, and violet eyes. Then, bells weren't around to announce that a baby was born or someone had died, but everyone knew even the Children knew.

And they took special interest with Hunter, the baby loved the cold and the Children were almost like his guardians. Even though Lord Meryn did not want Hunter or Tullian to play with the Children, Hunter still did when he was young child. But the Children took more interest in him, and since the Children thought that they would become apart of the weirwood tree when they die, they were also had the Old Gods take apart of Hunter's life. The Old Gods watched over Hunter and Tullian, they helped Hunter live all these years, but Tullian was unfortunate.

The season was about mid-summer when, the blue sky was far above the small castle of House Valyrrn. The men of that household were outside building a stone wall around three weirwood trees and a heart tree. Lord Meryn took the Old Gods as his religion and wanted to do so by making sure that the trees were safe.

He allowed the Children to come in and out of the Godswoods whenever they wanted to. And that was what let little Hunter be around the Children more. Hunter liked to sit in front of the heart tree and listened to the birds, the direwolves, the Children, the men shouting and singing. But most of all, he liked to listen to the noises of the North.

Lord Meryn stood above the stone wall, looking down at his men building and the sight of the weirwood trees. And as he looked down he saw his young son and his daughter laughing and chasing one another around the trees. Hunter looked up from chasing his sister, he saw his father standing above him, but he looked away when Tullian came over an pushed him ever so slightly. Hunter turned and started to chase his sister again.
