Daenerys was so used to the hot climate of Essos and the slightly chilliness of Dragonstone. The North was something totally different. For most of the time up there, she had spent it inside the heated walls of Winterfell. But now she was going to be in a open field somewhere, somewhere she wasn't protected or warmed up. Lord Valyrrn came up to the gates of Winterfell on his black horse, with his large direwolf, and one of his guards. The female one. The Brienne of Tarth of the North. Her blonde hair flowed out from underneath her helmet, her dark navy blue armor with a direwolf head off the top, helmet. Daenerys had been sitting on her horse for a few minutes, Jon had offered her one of his guards seeing that the Dothraki and the Unsullied were not used to the weather.
"Your Grace, it's a fine day for riding isn't it? I hope you are well enough for this ride and I hope that you okay enough to take this ride." Lord Valyrrn called out from atop his horse as they rode closer to Daenerys and the guard. "Though I suppose you are more used to the weather down South, than the chilly weather of the North. Much different than Essos or the Crownlands. So shall we?" He said and put his hand out motioning for her guard to go before them.
Which the guard did, willingly. How dumb was he to do such a thing, Lord Valyrrn had a plan and Daenerys knew it. Valyrrn went after him and Daenerys rode after him, she rode her horse up next to his, while his guard rode behind us. "It isn't really a good day for riding. There is no sun, it always cold and grim, and the people around here always have hardened faces." She sighed as she rode next to Valyrrn, he didn't look at her while she spoke and she was so used to being looked at while she spoke. But even she knew that what Valyrrn did was a bit different.
When the riders were a good distance away from Winterfell and Winter Town, they stopped at a hill that overlooked a deep valley were Valyrrn's troops sat waiting. The light grey smoke came out from the valley and the sound of crackling fire could be heard from atop the hill. "What do you see or hear?" Was he asking a trick question? Daenerys looked over at him while they sat there looking down at the troops. "I uh.. see troops and hear the crackle of a fire." "No, what do you really see or hear. Besides troops and fire. So answer what you see and hear truthfully." He said while the horses moved below them, Daenerys looked out at the valley one more time, watching all the troops move about.
Each one of them were sitting outside talking to one another, some were making jokes or telling stories. Some were getting a shave while others were getting hot water for bathes. Some were shooting arrows while others were sword fighting for practice. "I see an army of men, men who care a lot about their kingdom. I see men who want to look good for the war, while others raise the spirits around them, or some who are practicing for the war. I can hear the voices of every man who is talking or laughing, the sound of metal clacking against metal or arrows hitting the cloth of their targets. I can smell the grey smoke that fills the air, or the smell of meat being roasted on a fire."
"Good. There are 25,000 men standing before you, 25,000 men who are risking their lives for this war. This war that is putting their families at risk to stop something this big. Come on, let's get you inside before you freeze your toes off in this weather." He said and his black horse moved under him, Daenerys' horse followed after him. Valyrrn's guard and Jon's guard followed after them, the direwolf trotted in front of the horses as they made their way down the hill. When they moved through the camp, each man had stood up and bowed to them. With every man that had bowed to them, the lord had smiled at them and some of them smiled back.
When they made their way to leader's tent, four men came forwards to grab the reigns of the horses and led them off once everyone was off their horses. Valyrrn lifted up the flaps of the tent and motioned Daenerys to enter, he followed in after her. The Valyrrn guard and the Stark guard stood outside waiting. Daenerys sat in the chair in front of the desk while Lord Valyrrn poured her some wine. He handed her the cup then pulled the brazen over by her, he sat down with his cup of water. "Are you hungry? I can have someone bring you in some warm mutton or some bread, or some rabbit stew? Whatever her grace would like, should be in her service." Daenerys heard him say as she looked around the tent.
