~ Morning ~
The day started great, no rain and warm weather. Kayla stood next to the window holding a cup of not-so-hot coffee.
She couldn't sleep peacefully after she wrote in her notebook, although she tried to, but then she woke up every one or two hours. When she finally decided to get up from the bed before her alarm snoozed on and went to bathroom, she could see dark circles under her eyes. Her hair was so messy and suddenly she could see wrinkles in her face and puffy eyes.
In very slow motion, she made herself a cup of coffee. While waiting for the water to boil, she looked at the doomsday shard with hatred. For the first time in her life, she felt completely hopeless. She used to believe that nothing was impossible, but that man just ruined everything she believed in.
The terrible ache punched her head, her stomach growled, but she didn't have any appetite. She was not sure what to do today. During one of her lay-on-bed-with-eyes-wide-opened sessions, she looked for more information on the internet. Surprisingly she still couldn't find anything anymore. She used so many different keywords even checked the possible links of the superstitious news she found on the internet, but none, zonk, zero. As if she was not supposed to find any information about it.
Her phone beeped. She walked to the sofa and took that thing from the coffee table. A morning greeting from Martin, the only thing that could make her smile in that fine morning. They texted each other for a while until she ended it with the I-need-to-go-to-work reason, though going to work was the last thing she wanted to do.
But come to think of, lately her days were full of events and felt more lively compared to her days before that man came. It seemed that everything happened at the same time.
She looked at her smartphone and dialed a number, which didn't take long to be picked up.
"Morning Ma."
"Kay, are you okay?"
"Why?" She could sense that her mother was worried.
"You never call in the morning."
"Oh." She fell into silence for some seconds. "Yes, I am okay Ma. Just want to check on you." And hear your voice, she added in her own mind. "How is everything?"
"Everything is okay. We just finished having breakfast. Your Dad is here. Wait, let me put the speaker on."
"Hey Sweetie."
Kayla heard the deep voice she knew well. She blinked her eyes to stop tears from running down and cleared her throat. "Hey Dad. What was the breakfast?"
"As usual, my special pancake with lots of choco chip."
"Dad, why didn't you make that when I was there?"
He laughed. "I made you the salad dressing, didn't I?"
"Not fair. You know how much I love vegetables." His laugh was so contagious so she started laughing and she also could hear her Ma's laughter.
"I promise I will make it for you the next time you come home. Is everything okay Sweetie?"
"Yes, I just miss you both."
"Okay Hun, there must be something wrong with her. She never said that to us before." Obviously, Jacob was talking to Katie and forgot that the speaker was still on.
"Hey Dad, I said that before to you. Don't be too cruel. And I can hear you."
"You did, but it was a zillion years ago when dinosaur still lived on this earth. Wait, Hun, when did those creatures live?"
