"It's her own fault for being really bitchy. You understand me, right, Lucy? You're not thinking I'm siding with Kinana more than you?" Meredy pushed herself towards me, her eyes glinting as she held my hands tight within hers. "You're not mad at me too, right, Lucy?"
I detected the sadness in her voice, and that's probably because she's not in good terms with Sorano right now. After I left them, it seems they broke into bigger arguments until Meredy stormed out and left the room.
"I just want her to understand my point. It's not like I'm in favor of Kinana being too close to Cob--" She suddenly cut herself off, clearing her throat before speaking again. "What I mean is, I just think she doesn't deserve how badly everyone is treating her, she never did anything bad to them! She's even being nice!"
"Angel has her reasons too." Another voice suddenly chimed in, his tone flat and almost expressionless. Midnight slowly walked towards us, his hands stuffed in his pockets as he boredly approached us.
"She probably feels how a certain someone started feeling destructive eversince that woman came. Angel doesn't want that person to continue feeling that way that's why she's driving that woman away."
Wait... is he talking about me?
"But..." Meredy sighed in defeat, looking down at her clenched fists.
"But it doesn't mean you're wrong with being nice to someone who doesn't have bad intentions!" I quickly added, hoping to erase the upset expression in Meredy's face.
"In any case, neither of you two are wrong. You just need to understand each other's side." I explained further, smiling warmly at her.
Meredy slowly nodded, sighing before she stood up. "I don't want our friendship to get damaged further. I guess I should just fix this."
"See you later, Lucy, Midnight!" She waved, then running to the direction of the house.
"Now it's odd for you to just chime in our conversation like that." I pointed out, looking at Midnight as he calmly stood in front of me.
The wind blew softly, and at the same time, I felt surprised to see Midnight's serious gaze towards me.
"I wonder about that." He shrugged, glancing at the sky as it slowly turned orange and red. The surroundings gradually became dark, shadow looming over us.
I laughed lightly, crossing my arms in front of my chest as I looked at him. "So? What is it?" I believe that he purposely entered our conversations, leading Meredy to leave so he could talk to me about something.
"Nothing much. Jellal just gave us orders."
"What about?"
"Erik and that woman."
My heart began to beat rapidly at the mention of his name, random and uncertain thoughts resurfacing my mind. "Y-Yeah? What about them?" I looked away, swallowing nervously as I fidgeted on the hem of my blouse.
I got too focused on trying to clear my thoughts away that I didn't notice Midnight coming closer. He took my hand, smirking as it trembled against his. "It was a mission for only me, actually. But I thought it might be better if you tag along."
"Hey... Let go of my hand." I bit my lower lip, trying to keep my hand steady but to no avail. It kept trembling, along with my uncontrollable heartbeat.
"Oh. My bad." Midnight lightly chuckled, finally letting go. He stuffed his hands back in his pocket as he leaned towards my ear. "Jellal suspects Kinana of hiding something we should know. I personally heard her communicating to someone, giving reports... about you."
