BETTY POV

It was Saturday night and I was in my room. The volunteers had rooms in the basement of the hospital to sleep in. I shared it with a girl named Cheryl Blossom. She was 19-years old and on her way to being a nurse.

I made my way to Jughead's room to help him do his treatments and to hang out with him. I knocked on his door...but he didn't answer. I went inside anyway. I saw a jewelry box on the bed and opened it. It was a silver locket with the word in cursive, "Betts" on the front of it. I opened the locket and it was picture of me one one side and him on the other. I giggled to myself and saw a note in the box. I picked up and began to read it.

"Dear Betts,
I knew you would come into the room without permission. I hope you like the necklace...I paid a lot of money for it. Wear this necklace and meet me in the Cafeteria.

Your favorite person, Jughead Jones."

I giggled and set down the letter. I scurried out of his room and made sure to shut the door behind me. I ran to my room and started raging through my suitcase. Cheryl gave me weird look and then I groaned.

"Betty...are you ok?"

"No! I don't have anything to wear on this hangout thing." I whined as Cheryl smirked and stood up.

"Who is this 'hangout thing' with?"

"Jughead."

"As in your patient? Well, your kind of patient. As in the guy you look over constantly?"

"Yup."

"Then you're gonna need something a little hotter than the clothes you're wearing right now." Cheryl smirked. She looked through my clothes and found a knee-high, blue, with purple and pink flowers on it. The pulled out a pair of black flats.

"Get that on, ASAP." Cheryl said. I got the outfit on and then I wore my hair in a braid. I looked like a completely different person.

"Betty, you go out there and get a piece of Jughead Jones!" Cheryl exclaimed. I giggled and ran quickly to the Cafeteria. I wondered what was in store for us. I got to the Cafeteria and Jughead was sitting at a table that had a candle and food. I smiled and went to the table.

"Hi Juggie." I smiled and pushed my chair in. He didn't say anything. He just smiled at me for about 2-minutes straight.

"What? Is there a twig in my hair?" I asked.

"No...you just look so beautiful."

"Don't flatter yourself, Jones. I know what every guy wants from a girl."

"And what's that?"

"For them to make out with them and win their heart so they can just crush it into a million pieces. Boys-"

"Betty, I have Emphysema. The doctors say I only have 3 more years and that's when I'm 21-years old. I have no reason to play you because I'm not gonna have the experience again." Jughead chuckled. I kept a straight face and sighed. I looked down at my food. He took my chin and gently held it up.

"I just need to see your face again." He smirked and shrugged. I smiled and he let go of my chin. We ate our food and Jughead took his meds. Then we were off. In the hallway, I saw a wheelchair and then got an idea. I got it and smirked.

"Jughead, sit." I said. He sat down and then I started to push him. I started running we were zooming through the halls. We were laughing and then we saw Nurse Jolene.

"Betty, go!" He laughed as we turned the wheelchair around. We went the other way and ran into the elevator to the 8th floor. He stood up and we laughed. He started coughing again and he took the inhaler. I put the wheelchair in a corner and then walked to his room. We went in and he got out a Vaseline tub.

"It's supposed to help him chest pains and extra mucus. Let's see if it works." He said. He started to unbutton his shirt and I looked away.

"Betts, you ok?"

"Yeah...just thought you'd like some privacy."

"You act like you've never seen a shirtless guy before. Do you not go to the pool? What about your Dad or a male sibling?"

"My Dad, I've never seen shirtless and I have an older brother. Also...I don't know how to swim." I sighed. I turned and Jughead was blue. He was holding his throat and I ran to his nightstand and looked for the inhaler, nothing. I went to my bag and looked for it. I got it out and went over to him. We weakly opened his mouth and I put the inhaler in his mouth. He took a couple deep breaths and he got his color back. I took it away from his mouth and he gasped and his head fell on my shoulder. He was panting and I hugged him.

"I'm sorry, I'm so sorry." I sighed. He put his head up and my hands rested on his face.

"What's it like...with an oxygen tube all day?" I asked. Jughead slowly took his off and gasped weakly when he did it. He put it on me and it felt like I was breathing his air. We just kept looking at each other.

"B-Betty, I c-can't breathe." He said weakly and  he took the oxygen tube off of me and put it on him. He gasped in relief when he had it again. My hands were still on his face and his hands rested on my elbows. I started to lean in but he moved away a little.

"I've never kissed anyone before." He said.

"Neither have I." I whispered. We both were getting ready to kiss when Nurse Jolene burst into the room.

"Jughead, we have new reports on your lungs! Come to Dr. Smith's office immediately! Ms. Cooper, can we have a minute please? Jughead, button up your shirt, ya nasty." Jolene rolled her eyes. I looked at him one last time and then we walked out the door. Jolene pulled me into the hallway and gave me a dirty look.

"Ms. Cooper, What exactly are you doing with, Jughead Jones?"

"I like him."

"He has Emphysema! We're lucky he has even came this far along! You're only going to get both of you hurt!"

"But-"

"No buts! Elizabeth, from the way it's looking...Jughead isn't getting new lungs anytime soon. He...will come to end in 3-years and it's going to leave you heartbroken. I've seen it before. I knew a girl who had Heart Disease and she passed away. Her fiancée, is currently going to therapy because he has severe depression. I'd hate for the same thing to happen to you two." Jolene said and walked away. I felt my heart sink and I realized what I got myself into.
