The P.O.V. of the first chapter was chosen by a wheel decide. I'm so sorry lmao.

Chapter One: Don't Go!
  Quak Jensen

I woke up, immediately aware that something bad was going to happen: my owner, Virgil was about to leave. It was morning-time, which meant he would have to leave for something called "school." I didn't like school. And neither did my brother Wil. It meant that Virgil would leave for an eternity!

Sometimes, he would even be gone for longer than an eternity, and those times were terrible! Absolutely awful! Jill, who played with us while Virgil was gone, tried her best to be like our normal owner. She would feed us, play with us, take me outside, everything he would normally do.

Wil tweeted at me, signaling that it was time to try out our new tactic: we would be so adorable that Virgil couldn't leave. It had to work. It was foolproof!

I jumped up from my bed and jumped up on my hind legs, tall enough to reach the latch on Wil's cage. I used my teeth to open it and let him out. He flew out of the room, and I followed suit, just after I sniffed our owner's blankets. They smelled like him. I liked that smell.

I followed the scent of Virgil to the eating room, the scent being conquered by the smell of...food! I began to whimper, telling Virgil, telling Jill, telling Keira, telling everyone that I was hungry. Virgil patted my head and went to fill up my food bowl, coming back to his seat momentarily. But that's not the kind of food I wanted. I didn't want that mush they called food.

Pushing up with my hind legs, I was able to jump up onto the chair that my owner was just sitting in and began to lick his plate. Some of the sticky substance that was on the fluffy goodness of the food (I think they called it pancakes) got on my fur, but I didn't care. It tasted so...so good!

"Quak, no!" I heard Virgil shout before picking me up and putting me back on the floor. Dang the floor. I jumped onto his lap and licked his face, a classic tactic that I knew well.

As I was doing so, the sound of Wil's tweet rang throughout the room, and the small bird perched himself on Virgil's head. We had successfully attacked the target.

Soon, Keira and Jill came over and picked me and Wil up off of our owner; they were also our targets. I wanted to growl, but I knew growling landed me an eternity in the crate, so I didn't. I just whimpered.

'Mission failed,' I said telepathically to Wil, 'We'll get him next time.' He tweeted in response and he was put back in his cage. We weren't really telepathic, we just knew what we were thinking. It was nice. It was like a superpower.

I waited for Virgil by the door, knowing that this place was his next stop. He came soon, grabbing a bag off of a hook and patting my head again. That was the second time in that morning that he did that.

"I'll see you later, bud," he said with a smile. His eyes were dark as always, as if he hadn't slept at all. But I knew he had. I was with him all night, protecting his room from monsters, so I'd know.

He opened the door, causing me to begin whimpering again. Without even looking back at me, he left. Again. I sat at the door, hoping that he'd walk back in and change his mind about going to school. But he didn't.

I went to the couch and laid down, curling up with my tail laying on my nose. My eyes shut and I drifted off to sleep until Virgil returned.
