Hope and the Beast ( a Vampire Diaries fanfiction)

Chapter 5

Kai gives Damon the instructions  until they stop in front of a big white Hause.

"You sure gave a lot about privacy. This is like in the middle of nowhere." Hope says as they all look at the house, standing in front of the car.

"Well...yeah I don't have an excuse for that...come!" Kai says exited and leads the way.

"Oup, watch out for the blood there!" He says, stepping inside and the rest follows.

"no need to bother cleaning, for it always seams to come back on every reset. Part of rubbing my doing into my face." He says nonchalantly as he walks further into the house.

As they stand in the living room, he shows his hands into deep his pockets.

"Wow. This feels so weird!...having people here. My family were always paranoids living in the hiding...but Well, shall we begin right away or do you want to rest first?" Kai rambles

"we're vamps...we don't need-" Damon starts but when he looks at Bonnie he stops himself. "Nah resting sounds good." he finishes than.

They all split up and wander through the house which is actually very big. Bonnie snoops around looking at Familie pictures on the walls, noting that Kai is on any. She walks up the stairs and finds him standing in front of a closed door.

"Uhm...What are you doing?" she asks but he doesn't look at her.

"My room...this is my room." he says after a while.

"Haven't been here since...I don't know...forever?" he continues and breathes out heavily. He leans his head on the door.

Bonnie steps nearer and he speaks up again. "This was pretty much the only place I could be at ease. Away from the stares. Away from feeling like an alien...."

Bonnie tilts her head to the side trying to figure him out. Neither of both noticing hope at the bottom of the stairs.

"it's funny...in the real world i wanted to be alone all the time but now...never mind." he says and steps away from the door. "Don't dare to go in there...I'll make you regret it." he says to her in a low voice as he steps past her and towards the stairs.

Hope hurries away from her spot and Bonnie stays motionless while he happily skips down the stairs.

Bonnie stares at the door, something about it creeping her out. She's confused. Kai's an sociopath, but he looked genuinely hurt. He always looked like he wasn't capable of feeling anything besides anger and sadistic excitement. She turns and walks down the steps.

Bonnie, Damon and Kai are in the kitchen eating. Hope takes this as her chance.

She silently walks up the stairs. It's a long hall and at the very beginning of it there's what looks like a little girls room on the left. Everything in the room is in sets of two. Two identical beds standing parallel to each other, at the right corners on the wall opposite of them there are two closets, also identical. The sheets of one bed are for what looks like a 15 year old while the ones on the other are princess sheets. The only thing in the room that is not double is the desk in front of the big window. All in all the room is very cute and girly. The room right next door is a what looks like the room of two toddlers. There's a blue and a pink bed inside. In one corner there is a plushy chair, next to a bookshelf with children books on it. It's not as tidy as the other one, for all the toys scattered on the floor. The sheets are on the floor and the mattresses are flipped. Hope steps further into the hallway and the next room is the room of a girl that should be around twenty or older. It only has one bed, which is flippet over and posters of boy bands on the walls. A big closet and a desk with a computer on it. There's blood on the floor and hope turns around to see an other room at the opposite of this one. Other than the other rooms the door is closed she has a feeling that this would be Kais. She fights her curiosity and tells herself that she saves that one for last. She walks further down the hall to find the master bedroom. The room of his parents. It looks very noble. The furniture made out of rich wood, making it very rustikal. The room next to Kais is a small bathroom and to its left is a typical boys room. Again the furniture is in two sets. There are trophies on a shelf, a football in the corner and  a skateboard next to it. There's an other shelf with dinosaurs on top. So again the two boys that lived here were not of the same age. She walks to the trophies and sees that they are actually for school competitions. One says algebra contest, an other says best science Projekt. There are more but she steps away and out of the room. She swallows hard as she steps in front of the last room.

The room that Kai warned Bonnie about. Her hand goes to the handle and she stops. She concentrates her vampears downstairs to check what they are up to. Kai is rambling as always so she slowly opens the door. In contrast to the other rooms, this is very gray and cold themed. She steps inside and looks over everything. The bed is neatly made, as is the desk. There's a book on it and a baseball hat. Next to the baseball hat is a Walkman. On top of what looks like a note book or scatchbook. She turns to the door and sees weird matal things on the doorframe. She closes the door and steps back again. There are six different locking systems. Two big ones that go across the door. One at the top and one just above the door-handle . Under the door Handel there is small hinge for a padlock and three smaller additional locks between the big ones. She swallows as she sees symbols on the locks going across the door. They look like warding symbols. She suddenly has the urge to leave this dark room  and rips the door open to find a frowning Kai in front of her.

"What the hell are you doing in here?!" He grits trough his teeth.

"I uhm....i-i looked for the bathroom." she stutters.

"You liar! Who do you think you are?!" he growls at her and pushes her back into the room.

"Kai...i'm sorry." she says genuinely. She walks away from him, backwards but he follows her with every step.

"W-what are the locks for?" she blurts out making him freeze.

"Get out." He says tensely. "GET OUT!" he yells and she finally rushes out and downstairs. She hears the door slam shut and every lock lock in place.

"What's going on?" Damon lifts his eyebrow at hope who is leaning on the door.

"I think I did something very bad." she says and he steps to her with Bonnie.

"I was snooping around and...and I went into his room. He caught me and was very upset." Bonnie sighs and Damon looks confused.

Bonnie tells them about the little conversation she had with Kai earlier and hope tells her what she saw.

"Guys I know he is evil...but I don't think he was born it." Bonnie says.

"Sometimes when his facade slips he looks very vulnerable and have you noticed there are no pictures of him on the walls." Bonnie continues.

"I actually think that he is also an victim." she finishes.

Hours go bye and there is no sound of kai. Bonnie is currently sleeping while Damon and Hope are looking around the house. They stay away from upstairs thou.

"Hey Damon. I found something that looks to be the office of Kais dad." she wisperes getting his interest.

They go into the office and look trough the papers. "Found anything about the archive?" Damon asks looking over his shoulder as he goes through the bookshelf.

"No only financial documents." she stands up and walks to Damon but he stops her when she is half way to him.

"Wait did you hear that?" he asks and she shakes her head.

"Take the same step back." she does as he asks.

"There!" he says noticing something again.

"Get of the carpet." he tells her and she does. He then lifts it up to find a door in the floor. He opens it up to find a box. He takes it out and they walk to the desk to put it there. He reaches in and pulls out a tape case. There are 20 tapes inside. He takes one tape in his hand and reads out what it says on it. „May 10th 1972." he looks back into the box to find a video camera they put it in and watch it on to little screen.
