Chapter 9

After a smooth landing they hot-wire a car to drive home.

"We won't make it to the next eclipse. So we'll just do it tomorrow." Damon announces and drives out of the airport.

"I've spent two decades here. One day more won't make a difference." Kai says with a grin and bounces in his seat out of happiness.

Hope turns her face to the window and nibbles on her lip. She could come up with something within the next 24 hours. She had to.

"I'm up in my room." Hope says as soon as they step into the Salvatore mansion and rushes up the stairs.

Kai stands in the lobby and watches Bonnie walk into the living-room area while Damon also walks up the stairs. He decides to follow Bonnie.

"So tomorrow is the day." He says, awkwardly standing at a distance.

"Yea." She answers with a pressed smile.

"Bon, i just wanted to....you know....apologize for what I did to you." He stammers.

Bonnie raises her eyebrow.
"I don't know what your trying but I'm not buying it." She says and protectively hugs herself, remembering him siphoning her.

Kai squints at her, feeling something off. "What are you not telling me?"
He asks skeptically.

"Nothing just that, as soon we touch ground in the present, I want you gone." Bonnie spits.

Kai looks taken aback. "Hope-"

"Hope is still a kid! She doesn't know what's good for her. You'll ruin her." Bonnie cuts him off.

"You won't even give me a chance?" He says in disbelieve.

"I will never trust you or like you or enjoy your company for so much as one second, so just quit trying. Like I said, you go your way we go ours. That's the deal." Bonnie tells him.

Kai takes a deep breath through the nose. "Fine." He says shortly and walks off.

Bonnie lets out a breath she didn't know she had been holding. A little peace of her feels bad but she can't forget. 'Psychopaths tend to be charming and act vulnerable. That's the way they manipulate people.'

"You've Seen Kai?" Hope asks Bonnie.

"No." Bonnie says clipped.

"Okey." She turns and goes of to look for Kai.

"Hope. Wait." Bonnie stops her.

"What."

"Please stay away from him. He is no good company." Bonnie tells her.

"You know? People like you are the reason why he became what he is. Would someone have ever given him a chance then maybe his siblings never would have had died." Hope says without looking back at Bonnie.

"I want to change that. I don't care what you think." She ads and finally walks off.

"There you are. I've been looking all over for you!" Hope calls from under the tree, which Kai sitting on.

"You Found me. Now you can go." Kai doesn't look at her.

"What?" She asks in disbelieve.

"You heard me." He says.

"Did I miss something?" Hope asks.

She gets no answer.

"Fine be like that. I'll sit here. You can't tell me what to do." She says and sits down at the foot of the tree.
