How will he explain? How will he admit? He just met two orphans, and got the boys number.

He sighed as he sat in the kitchen table staring at his plate of mashed potatoes, listening to his son watch tv in the living room.

He got a boys number.

'Look on the bright side sonic' sonic thought to himself.

'Maybe this shadow guy doesn't wanna hurt you, and just be your friend'

he suddenly smiled at the thought, maybe that's what Shadow wanted, hell he was orphan and he probably didn't have any friends.

"Dad, im going over to knuckles's house!" Sonic heard his son yell, quickly snapping him out of his thoughts.

"Alright, be safe" Sonic Sighed and checked his phone. Should he text him?

"Dad, I'm grounded." Tails said walking over to the kitchen to see his father plainly staring at his food.

Tails cleared his throat to catch his attention. Sonic jumped a little and quickly looked up to see Tails, leaning on the wall with his arms crossed.

"Dad? Did you forget, oh my gosh for once In a lifetime you forgot I was grounded?!" Tails giggled and walked over to his father  sitting next to him on an empty chair.

"Well, guess what Tails, you're UN-grounded" Sonic said rolling his eyes and asked himself why he wanted a kid.

"I would go but Dad, KNUCKLES IS ON VACATION IN ARIZONA!" Tails yelled making Sonic's ears nearly bleed from earrape.

"How could you forget, you're terrible at forgetting." Tails said as he slammed his fist on the table only to wince at the pain.

''I, I don't know." Sonic sighed still looking down at his food with his chin resting on his hand.

"Right... You're also bad at not knowing, what's wrong dad?"

Sonic let out a heavy sigh before speaking, looking up at his son before folding his hands together.

"Miles, I think i... Sinned."

"How? Dad, you're also terrible at sinning."

"I got a persons number." Sonic sighed looking over at his son with shameful eyes. Only to earn a smile from the other.

"Thats great dad, you can finally manage to get a girlfriend. I don't understand how that's a sin though" Tails chuckled.

"It was a guy. A man. I got a guys number." Sonic said and tossing his plate of food into the trash. Even though, he didn't eat any.

"Oh, I see."

"Well, that's cool, but dad. Just because he gave you his number doesn't mean he likes you." Tails said, "maybe he just wants to be your friend. You need lots of those anyway. Silver and Blaze aren't the only people in the world."

"I guess you're right, Tails." Sonic said. For a thirteen year old, Sonic had to admit, Tails was right. Or maybe he wasn't.

Sonic went on about his usual day, cleaning the house, watching his favorite program, eating lunch, dinner, and supper with his son. It was the middle of june, Tails was on summer vacation so he spent a lot of time with his son. It was just another typical monday for him, he almost forgot about Shadow.

At around seven pm Sonic was in room sitting on his bed as he read an insert from the bible, Tails was in the living room probably watching a movie.

As Sonic's eyes moved with the letters invested in his story.
He soon started to just read the words and not really focus on what was going on. Suddenly his eyes drooped, he got a little bored. He closed the book and spotted his phone on his nightstand. He sighed and grabbed it going to his contacts and clicking on Shadow's. He typed out a rushed message, the urge to talk to him he had in the back of his mind already fading away.

Sonic: hi shadow. its me sonic how you doing? Sorry i didn't message you sooner i got busy and stuff.

Sonic stayed in the messaging app just staring. Reading his message over and over. It took a while but shadow finally responded.

Shadow💕: Hey it's okay. I seriously thought you wouldn't message me but its okay. Anyways. How are you faker?

Sonic smiled at the message. He wasn't sure why. He quickly typed out a response.

Sonic: so we giving eachother nicknames? In that case im gonna start calling you shads, shads. And im doing okay.

Shadow💕: Shads huh? I like that.

Sonic: i like you. In a friendly way of course!

Shadow💕: Bruh.

Sonic: what?

Shadow💕: Nothing. Anyways you busy tommarow?

Sonic: no. Why?

Shadow💕: Well, Cream and I are going to the pizza arcade and i was wondering if you wanted to come.

Sonic: sure I'd love to. Is it okay if i bring my son Tails though? I'm sure he'd love to meet Cream.

Shadow💕: Sure. Cream would love the company also, you have a kid?!

Sonic: yeah? is that a suprise to you?

Shadow💕: how old are you?

Sonic: 30.

Shadow💕: there's no way you're thirty! Tell me the truth.

Sonic: that's the truth!

Shadow💕: wow. You look much younger. Take it as a compliment if you will.

Sonic felt his face heat up.

Sonic: lets stop talking about ages. Send me the address, Shads.

Shadow sends the adress almost instantly, Sonic guessed he already had it copied down. Sonic copied it into his clipboard.

They continued to text talking about almost everything. Once in a while, Shadow would make Sonic laugh with his goofy messages. Shadow was much more interesting than his church friends.

A couple hours later they extanged farewells and Sonic didn't even notice it was already ten pm.
