The two went to church without saying a word. Tails sat in the back of the truck this time though, that was different. He always took shotgun.

At one point in church, Tails fell asleep and normally Sonic would shake him awake but he didn't mind this time because in his own sense he too fell asleep, with his eyes open if you will. He couldn't pay attention to the word of god, he'd stand up when he needed to, pray the prayers he needed to; but that was only due to instinct. His mind wasn't really present.

He kept drifting off to thoughts he never knew would go through his head, did he really need all this? Was God actually making him happy or was Sonic just believing he was? After Fiona left him with Tails he sought for help and found the path of god thinking all this was the solution when really all it was doing was putting silly things in his head and thinking someone who wasn't really there was there. It all made sense, none of this was real.

When the people got up to drink from the chalice, Sonic shook Tails awake, grabbed his hand, and walked out of the church and into their truck.

"Leaving early?" Tails asked putting on his seatbelt. "That's new."

"Yeah, i don't think we'll be coming back anymore." Sonic laughed turning on the engine, he saw Tails's face light up making him smile. "Thanks for helping me open my eyes by the way Tails, i don't need God to be happy. I need love."

Tails smiled wide and hugged his dad, Sonic hugging back and when they let go after 5 minutes Sonic drove off.

"Love you dad." Tails said.

"Love you too son." Sonic said and turned the radio on, as soon as he did some christian song started playing. He quickly changed the station and blasted something else instead.

Shadow💕: hey stinky, you haven't texted me all day are you alright or am i gonna have to send Cream to spy on you?

Sonic: ah sorry, took Tails to the store and out to eat. I forgot about your existence.

Shadow💕: how rude, i was expecting you to be thinking about me all day.

Sonic laughed at that message and saw it was only 9pm. He sent Tails to stay at knuckles's place and decided to do a little bit of spring cleaning (or summer cleaning in this context) and threw away all his religious items, from his rosaries to his bibles. Well he didn't really throw them away, he donated them to the church but same thing. What a day.

Where the shrine once was, now hung a group photo of him, Shadow, Tails and Cream he took when they went to the Fair one Saturday night. Hence why he went to the store today, to print out the picture.

Sonic shook his head and leaned against the wall behind him getting comfortable in his bed. It was time to tell Shadow the truth about his feelings. He felt kind of petty to be doing it behind the phone but it was too late to invite the ebony hedgie over and he was too impatient to wait until the next day. Sonic felt like he just made a revolutionary discovery and he needed to tell Shadow all about it! He began typing out a message.

Sonic: hey Shadow you're not busy right? I kinda wanna call you.

Shadow💕: oh no not all. I'd love to talk to you.

*owo double upload? Yes, i wanna finish this thing and im not editing screw that. Next chapter will be wholesome and kinda smutty too (: it'll prolly be fuckin weird and kinky knowing how i am :D
