Asano's P.O.V.
Sitting at my desk that same evening, I erased something on my paper furiously. Outside my window, a storm raged. Rain hit the glass like bullets and thunder rumbled in the distance. Every few seconds, lightning struck.
I felt the same inside. The thunder was my anger, barely contained and growing louder by the minute. The rain was the questions slamming around in my brain.
Why was I angry?
Because stupid Akabane!
What about him?
He's...he's just so stupid sometimes!
I could punch him! I tried to imagine my fist connecting with his perfect cheek, but somehow it turned into a vision of me caressing him instead and I shook my head abruptly, letting out a small growl.
The lightning was the moments when I had a moment of clarity that I didn't want.
"Since when did I raise a small animal instead of a human son?"
I didn't turn around.
"Since when am I suddenly being referred to as your son?" I replied, flipping open my textbook.
My father stepped into my room and took a seat on the edge of my large, four poster bed. His fingers were crossed and was leaning towards me.
"Asano," he stated.
I still didn't look up from my desk. "What."
"Look at me." He commanded.
I hesitated for a split second, before giving in. I slammed my pencil down and turned my chair to face him.
"What?" I asked again, crossing my arms.
He didn't say I had to be polite, and I was going to take any small victory I could get.
"We need to talk." He said, sounding so professional. Like this was a meeting with his colleagues and not a private talk with his son.
"I disagree."
"I don't care." His dark eyes were narrowed at me. "This is important."
Maybe he's going to take me seriously about those monsters now, I thought, or tell me more about that missing student.
"What are you planning on wearing to the dance?" He asked.
My mind went blank.
What?
Was he serious?! At a time like this?
I blinked, my arms loosened from their defensive pose in surprise. "What am I gunna..."
He still looked as serious as ever. "Kiri stopped by while you were out. She said she's wearing pink and wants you to coordinate with her. I've already put in an order for a pink dress shirt and corsage."
I balked. "Who said I'm even going to the dance?"
"I did. You're the principals son, the shining star of this school. You are obligated to be there with a perfect date and have a good time. Kiri is the prettiest girl there, it's a match made in Heaven."
I narrowed my eyes. "Match made in Heaven or a match made in your mind?"
"What's the difference?"
I rolled my eyes and turned back to my desk. "I have plans that day, I'm going to be bed ridden with a 24 hour disease."
"Cancel it. You're going."
"Why?" I snarled, jumping to my feet. My hands were in fists at my side.
That stupid dance was the last thing on my mind. I had more important things to be thinking about right now.
