Body Double
06 - Golden Boy

"what you are wearing isn't white armour, it's a white shirt and I can take care of myself."

. . .

People were to busy cheering for their school's team to really realise that both boys had slipped away unnoticed. Ryan roughly tugged on the collar of Kevin's jacket forcing him to follow closely behind. His feet stumbled against the uneven ground beneath him as they made it around behind the bleachers.

Ryan's other hand gripped onto the boy shoving him against the wood causing it to creak due to the pressure. His eyes widen with fear that if he didn't speak that something might happen to him. Kevin swallowed nervously his eyes darted down at the other male's hands on him before looking at his aggressor's face.

Standing only a few inches from him was the previously second most popular boy in school, now fallen from grace. "You said you wanted to talk?" he squeaked questioning the need for such force.

For a moment Ryan's eyes soften in realising that his methods were a little extreme. Slowly each finger of his removed themselves from his jacket and a sigh left his lips. "Yea... true I did," he spoke softly with a shake of his head. He couldn't believe how easy it was for him to slip back into old habits "I'm sorry I don't know what came over me there," he apologised clearing his throat.

Kevin brushed his hands down the front of his clothes to smooth it out. Still unsure about the whole thing when he pulled his hands away from his front they shook "you said you want me to tell you about Jason's body? are you crazy?" he questioned.

Thankfully the cheer from the crowd was much louder than Keller's voice allowing it to fade into the emptiness of the night unnoticed.

Ryan scoffed folding his arms across his chest "maybe, but say that a little louder I want your father and the whole of Riverdale to hear this conversation," he stated gesturing to the crowd that was only a mere few meters away.

"why do you want to know?" Kevin rightfully questioned.

"because," Ryan paused for a moment.

Why did he want to know?

The images of Jason's bloodied body filled his mind causing a shaky breath to pass his lips "because he was my best friend I- I didn't want him to suffer in his final moments," he lied. His gaze dropped.

Kevin's features soften as he looked at the boy with pity "I would normally believe that but given your scene with Cheryl it's hard to now," he admitted.

Of course, he would have heard about that. Cheryl would have had her lackies spreading the ill word about him in any way they could. Ryan's lips form a tight line before he speaks "my issue with her has nothing to do with this, Kevin I just want to know can you simply give me that?"

"I don't know..."

"Please?"

A shocked expression form on Kevin's face. He stayed silent as the debate over whether or not to tell Ryan was being fought. His gaze flickering from the boy in front of him to their shared surroundings Kevin let out a sigh as he gave in.

Double checking that no one was near he leant in closer, his voice hushed barely audible to Ryan "He was shot."

Shot.

The word rang in Ryan's mind much like a gunshot. The flashes of red and white that had been pledging his nightmares accompanied the ringing. "No, he couldn't-" he cut himself off from saying any more.
