Chapter 6: Fighting and Hallucinating
2 years later
Nikole-
Life fell into pattern. Tony and I rarely saw much of each other. After school that day when I came home I found my lock taken of my door. I thought it was unfair that he could lock me out but I couldn't lock him out.
I screamed at him. We fought. I hit him and I walked out. I stayed with Aliena for 3 days, but I grew so homesick it had started becoming painful. Needless to say I went back home. And when I did get home.
I realized all of the doors leading to another room had no locks all the locks were gone-- except for the bathroom locks. When I walked in the house Tony and I just looked at each other. We had nothing to say. I wasn't sorry about hitting him. I was proud of myself.
That night we began our awkward routine. I went to the kitchen and made dinner for us. When it was done we ate in silence. After dinner I told him goodnight and went upstairs to get ready for bed. He would go to his study and I would brush my own hair up in my room. And that was it. We rarely ever spoke about anything anymore.
To his credit he did try to tug the bond we had back to life. But I shrugged it off. And after awhile he got the point and gave up. Still unsure of what had caused him to push me away in the first place. I was unable to think about how bad it would hurt the next time. That's why I couldn't let there be a next time. Ever.
At dinner we ate silently, me doing homework in between bites and Tony tapping at his laptop in complete focus. I felt a surge of jealousy at the inanimate object that held his attention better then I could. I stifled the stupid emotions and cleared my throat.
"I won't be home until later tomorrow. I'm trying out for the volleyball team."
"Tomorrow is your Dr. appointment." Tony reminded.
" So I'll go after the try outs." I shrugged standing up, "You finished?" I asked motioning to his plate. Tony nodded.
"You're going to go by yourself?"
"I'm sure nothing will change. She always says the same thing. That my Animal DNA is becoming more pronounced and I need to be careful. I can get a ride to the appointment after tryouts and I'll... call around. Someone will come get me." I answered rinsing the dishes completely and putting them in the dish washer.
"I'll come get you after your appointment. Just call 15 minutes before you're ready to leave."
"Kay, thanks. Oh," I said reaching into my pocket and handing the pieces of paper to him.
He unfolded it, "What is this?" He questioned at the same time he read over the papers.
"It's my report card... and a permission slip."
"Permission slip to take combat training. Why would you need combat training?" Tony asked looking up at me. I shifted my weight from one foot to another.
"I've been think about going into the SSF after graduation. Aliena loves it." I smiled at the memory of my best friends latest letter.
"I'm not signing this." He pushed the paper back towards me.
"Why not?" I asked taken back. I'd thought it'd make him happy.
"Because. You're going to college." He said as if it was already decided.
"When did we even talk about me going to college? I want to be in the SSF. I want to save shifters. I owe it to them. My father was one of the men who began testing on them. It's my responsibility-"
