Lorena's POV

I drove myself home early this morning while everyone was asleep because I needed to think without people in my face. Especially Grayson.

My birthday was today. Was I excited about it? I mean, I'm turning 18 so I'm able to do a lot more and I guess I was happy about that. Lily always wanted me to do something extravagant every year for my birthday. I always agreed because I love hanging out and meeting new people. This year my plan was to just relax and hang with a couple friends. The only three friends I have honestly.

"Good morning sweetheart, Happy Birthday." My mom smiled walking into my room.

I replied with a thanks and a smile, waiting for her to leave my room. I love my mom, but her and I don't have the best relationship. We tend to disagree on a lot. We used to be hella close but that soon ended when she introduced me to this horrid guy. He lived here for a bit, but left once things became to violent. I don't sulk around about it because it's not that deep honestly. I just didn't like the guy nor did I think he was good enough for my mom. My dad's around but the older I got the less I saw him. It was more my decision so I don't blame him for anything. I was thankful he was around when I needed him to be.

"So, what ya doing for your 18th birthday?" She asked with a weak smile.

I know my mom's hurt because I barely talk to her about anything. She feels bad but never apologized. I'll admit that I am mad at her, but knowing me I don't confront anything because things will escalate with my attitude. The times I needed her, she was too worried about him. I needed my mother and she was absent.

"Nothing much, probably just hanging out with E, Lily, and Gray." I responded getting out of bed to shower.

"Sweetie it's a Saturday, why don't you have a party? You haven't had one in years."

"Actually I've had parties since I turned 16. You just never came to any of them." I reminded her, slightly annoyed.

"I was never invited." She said trying to make a point.

"You were. Countless amount of times. Again, you never bothered to come to any."

"I-" I cut her off.

"I need to shower." I said closing the bathroom door.

I huffed and began taking off my clothes, until I heard my phone ring.

"Hello." I answered.

"Happy birthday Lor!" Lily yelled through the phone.

I giggled and replied with a thanks.

"Sooo you're turning 18, party?" She asked excitedly.

"I don't think I want a party Lil. I want to go somewhere far away, to relax." I responded smiling.

"Um Lorena.. you do realize it's September right? We have school to attend to." She said giggling.

"Taking a week off wouldn't hurt anybody, we'll just collect the work we need. It's our senior year, all we'll be doing this year is focusing on college. Plus my grades are really good soo i'll be fine. What do you think?" I explained.

"That actually doesn't sound like a bad idea. I'll just let my mom know. As for my grades, i'm doing great as well. I'll have to ask Ethan if he can go though. Would you like me to ask Gray or do you want to?" She asked knowing what happened between Gray and I last night.

"I'll do it. Hey, um I need to shower so i'll see you later?"

"Yea, see ya later Lor." She replied as she hung up.

After she hung up. I got in the shower and began my daily routine. Washing my face, body, and hair. I decided to dress up a little for my birthday, you only turn 18 once. After I finished my routine, I brushed my teeth then began my make up, going for a natural look. I then blow dried my hair and straightened it out. As for my outfit I chose something simple but effective due to the lack of plans today. Knowing me I go all out for everything because of my love for fashion. I then finished off the look with lotion, deodorant and some of my favorite perfume from Victoria's Secret, Vanilla. Looking in the mirror I was really proud of my creation. I then exited my room and made my way downstairs.

"You look so pretty Lorena Rae." My mom said smiling.

"Thank you Mom, I've decided on what I want to do for my birthday."

"What's that?" She asked.

"I want to go somewhere this week. Maybe Miami?"

"Miami? For a week? Lorena it's September. You'll be missing a whole week of school." She explained.

"I know but it's my senior year and my grades are good. It'll only be for a week. When I get back I promise you school will be my first priority. I'll even start applying for colleges. I have money of my own because I've been working all summer. I even start my second job when I get back from Miami. I'm turning 18, can I please have your blessing to go?" I said practically begging my mother.

She thought for a while and then proceeded to say. "Fine, I'll help you pay for half. You should ask your dad to help out since he barely even speaks to you."

"Thank you so much mom." I said giving her a hug. I've missed her but I'm not ready to forgive her just yet. She has a lot of explaining to do.

She nodded. I took this as a chance to tell her what needed to be payed for. The plane ticket there and back, the hotel, and transportation. All the important stuff would be taken care of by my mother and father. Clothes, food, and extra things would be payed for with my own money. My parents offered to treat due to both of their absences at my past birthday parties. I thanked both of them and made my way to see Lily.
