Guarding The Royal

Chapter 20

3rd POV 

"Natsu you didn't kill her, she did what she did so you and I could be here today." Zeref says as he holds his brother in a tight hug. "You did everything you could, you helped her help us. Do you understand that?" Zeref continued as his brother slobs into his shirt. "She could have left us and made it out alive but she had to cast that spell! Why didn't she just run? My flames couldn't protect her. So it's my fault she's gone." Natsu cries with a thick pain in his chest. "Little brother  Listen to me," Zeref says as he sits him down on the couch. "You have to understand that you weren't strong enough to make more flames back then and mother understood what she had to do and she did it. She knew that we would have died if she didn't use the last little bit of her power and strength we all would have been dead." Zeref says as he looks his brother in the eyes as he wipes his brothers tears away. 

Natsu tries to avoid his brother's look. "Before mother's passing, she told me something that made me see everything so differently and I'm about to tell you the same thing." Zeref says as he takes in a deep breath. "You and I are connected. That's why we always come when the other is in calling out." Natsu gives Zeref a side look before raising a brow. "What do you mean?" Natsu asks. Zeref sighs and stands up. "When we were younger we would play hide-and-go-seek. Do you remember how you were the first person I would find and when I would hide, I was the first person you always found?" Zeref asks as Natsu shakes his head. "We were always being pulled to each other. Haven't you ever wondered why I'm the only one that can calm you down when your inner self takes over?" Zeref says walking around the room as he explains to Natsu.

Natsu's eyes widened as realization hit him. "How is this even possible? Why didn't you ever tell me?" Natsu asks as he practically jumps off the bed. "I-i......I wanted to......but mother said you had to be told when the time was right." Zeref says as he crouches down on the floor. "And for how this is possible, I haven't the slightest clue. But there is someone that might." Zeref says as he looks away from his brother. Natsu thinks for a moment. "You mean......Lucy?" Natsu says with a softer tone. "Brother there is something I have to tell you also." Natsu says as he walks next to his brother. 

"And what would that be?" He says in response. "Here it goes.....I'm the Demon King." Natsu says as he looks at his brother. Zeref's movement stops completely before he looks at his brother. "Are you being serious?" Is all he can ask to what his brother says. Natsu nods his head. "It is the truth brother. Our mother was the daughter of the previous Demon King and it seems as though that trait was passed down to me." Natsu states. "How do you know any of this?" He asks his little brother. "Lucy showed me the past and how it all happened. How mother and father meet and how she gave birth to me and how they binded my true powers until the time came where I needed them." Natsu says to his brother.

Zeref sits in a dead silence until Natsu's voice breaks it. "I know it sounds crazy but brother did you since anything different about me then our other siblings?" Natsu asks. Zeref turned his head to look at his brother. He stood up and looked down at his brother. "Yes, you have always been more different from everyone else but I never would have thought that this is the reason why. But the day you disappeared after Lucy, father told me something." Zeref takes a breath before continuing. "He told me about our mother but he also said that you were the only one with the power. But then that got me thinking, how are we so connected if you're the only one born with the blood of demons?" Natsu's eyes squinted. "What if you have a small amount of the demon's blood running through your vanes?" He says thinking out loud. 

"Now you see what I mean. We need to talk to Lady Lucy." Zeref says walking to the door. "Zeref, you know she goes by Queen Lucy now, right?" Zeref's eyes widened as he stops in his tracks. "And little Wendy she's becoming a young lady very quickly." Natsu continued. "How did all of this happen so quickly? It's only been a few days." Zeref says. "Here it's only been a few days but in the Celestial Realm, I've been gone for weeks." Natsu says with a smile. Zeref lens on the door. "But can't we ask her for her help?" Zeref asks trying to understand. "I think we can do that but right now we have to go meet up with everyone." Natsu says throwing his arm around his brothers shoulders. As they close the doors to Zeref's room.
