A M O R A

Amora shifted frown one foot to the other, watching the doors to the throne room.

She had received word that Sif had returned with Lorelei. Unfortunately, the trial was closed to her, so she was left with waiting for the verdict in the hallway.

A part of her considered slipping into the trial with an invisibility spell, but she did not want to risk upsetting the king.

The Allfather promised, Amora told herself, leaning back against the wall. She told herself this over and over. Surely he would keep his word.

The doors opened, and Amora pushed herself off of the wall. A several Einherjar soldiers came out before Amora could hear the rattle of chains.

Lorelei stepped out, ushered along by Sif's firm grip on her arm. Amora doubted that Sif had ventured far from the redhead after returning.

Nevertheless, Amora breathed a sigh of relief. Her sister was alive.

As soon as she saw her sister, the redhead's steps faltered.

"Odin said that you're the only reason I'm alive," Lorelei sent, still silenced by her collar.

"I am."

Lorelei's face darkened as the guards ushered her on. "You should have let me die."

Sif reluctantly released her hold, and with a nod to the guards, she broke off from their group. The two women watched as Lorelei disappeared down the hallway.

"Thank you, Sif. I know this is...not what you wanted," Amora said, "I'm glad you made it back alright."

Sif nodded with a small smirk . "It was not without it's difficulties, but the Midgardians were good help. I can see why you like them so much."

A pair of footsteps echoed down the hall, drawing nearer, and the two women turned to see Thor approaching.

"Thor," Amora greeted with a smile, "How are you?"

"I am well." The slight strain in his voice suggested otherwise.

He looked up at the great doors before them. "My father requested my presence. I assume he's going to offer me the throne."

"And what are you going to say?"

Thor gave her a crooked smile. "No."

However, the expression faded as he turned to face the two women fully. "I intend to leave tonight. After Loki's funeral."

"Oh." Amora's heart sank.

Thor was going back to Midgard. He was leaving. Another name added to the long list of people to do so.

But she plastered on a smile. "That's wonderful. I'm sure Jane will be happy to see you again."

A warm smile spread across the prince's face. With a nod, he turned and entered the throne room.

The two women started down the hallway.

Amora eyed Sif's tenseness. "I'm sorry," she said. Sometimes, Thor's obliviousness made her want to hit him.

"I suppose we're destined to live without our princes," Sif said lowly, her gaze still trained forward. She winced and looked to Amora. "I'm sorry. I did not..."
