Junmyeon's POV

...

Today I felt a whole lot better than I did yesterday. My talks with Kyungsoo and mom did wonders to my brain, and I finally slept a whole night. I awoke feeling ready to face whatever the day threw at me. Except there was a small problem with that.

Now Yixing avoided me.

I knew I deserved it after the treatment I gave him yesterday. It was only fair. But when I got to school and his gaze met mine and he promptly turned around and walked away, it kind of stung. Even if it shouldn't have. And I didn't have any morning classes with him, so I couldn't properly apologize until after lunch. I hoped I'd see him, sitting with Luhan and Hoseok as usual.

But lunch rolled around and he wasn't anywhere to be seen. My spirits sank as I grabbed some rice and vegetables, making my way to Kyungsoo, who was strangely eating by himself already. Hoseok was also seated with Jimin, Namjoon, Seokjin, Yoongi, Kim Taehyung, who I'd only ever really heard about, and Jungkook. Luhan sat with Taeyong, Ten, and Jisung, looking a little lost.

"Where's Baekhyun?" I finally had the nerve to ask. Kyungsoo, his cheeks stuffed full of kimchi, simply shrugged. His round glasses were perched on his nose today, which must have meant a long study session. I picked at my lunch, not really feeling hungry but also knowing I had to eat.

"Hey guys." Baekhyun came skipping to the table, Chanyeol lumbering behind him wordlessly. Baekhyun sat across from me. "So Jun, how'd your little talk go yesterday?" he asked, leaning his elbows on the table and resting his chin on his palm. "Come on Channie," he added. "My friends don't bite." Chanyeol hesitantly sat beside him. I couldn't say we were friends with the giant boy, because I barely knew him, but this year Baekhyun had really hit it off with him.

"It didn't go anywhere really," I said at last, turning my attention to the shorter of the two newcomers. "I said let's hang out as friends some time. He ran off. That's about it." Baekhyun groaned, smacking his forehead. "What?" I asked, a little huffily.

"You said he ran off when you mentioned the word friends, right?" Baekhyun asked. I nodded. "He must like you Jun. No wonder you were so conflicted the other day." I shushed him again, fully aware a new set of ears was listening in. Baekhyun followed my line of sight, the imaginary lightbulb above his head finally flicking on. "Ah, Channie won't say anything, will you?"

"Of course not," Chanyeol rumbled. His voice was, unsurprisingly, very deep. "Whatever you talk about at this table, stays at this table." Baekhyun smiled triumphantly. I just huffed again, stuffing some rice into my mouth.

"Now, about this boy of yours..." Baekhyun began, but my palm meeting the table rather harshly had him halting in his tracks. Even Kyungsoo jumped a little.

"My lack of love life is none of your concern," I practically growled. I loved Baekhyun, I really did, but he had a tendency to just butt in when he wasn't wanted or needed. Baekhyun's face fell, but all he did was nod, instead staring at his hands on his lap. Chanyeol patted his back, glaring at me. I glared back. Maybe I did feel a little guilty for basically scaring him to silence, but I also didn't want or need his help.

"Well then," Kyungsoo finally spoke, shattering the awkward silence like delicate glass. I glanced to him. "I kind of have to agree with Baek on this one." Baekhyun still wouldn't meet my gaze, and my slight anger began to fizzle. "Where is he anyway? If what you told me is true, at least on your end, you should at least try to talk to him. Take things slow. See if there's a basis for anything more than friendship. If not, be content to be his friend. It's a rarity. He doesn't let many people passed those walls." I thought about it for a few minutes, moving more rice around with my chopsticks. "You do like him, right?" Kyungsoo asked.
