“Grr.”

Edward Elric sat in a hospital bed, looking extremely ticked off.

“We were so close! This is no time for me to be stuck in a hospital!” he declared angrily.

You rolled your eyes at him from the bed next to his.

Maria Ross and Brosh looked at each other and nodded.

“Ten-hut!”

“Eh?” Edward said, confused.

“Fullmetal alchemist, sir! Please allow us to apologize in advance for our rudeness!” they chorused.

“Wat?”

*Slap*

Edward shook his head from side to side, like in a daze.

“You disobeyed a direct order from the major!” shouted Brosh.

“And you nearly got killed because of it!” added Ross.

Edward stared.

Maria rubbed her temples. “It’s okay to trust adults sometimes.” she said softly.

“Ten-hut!” they repeated, snapping to attention.

Ed stared forlornly at his lap.

“My..punishment? For slapping you?” asked Ross, nervously.

“Nah, it’s fine. I had it coming.” said Ed.

The two adults sighed and leaned against the wall.

“Why are you guys so nice to me?” he asked.

“Even though you’re not a standard soldier, your rank is equivalent to major. One word from you and we could be dismissed.” explained Ross.

“Nah. Don’t worry about it. I didn’t get my license for the rank.” Ed said dismissively.

They laughed in relief. “Is that so?” “You had no idea how hard it was to be so nice to someone younger!”

“Hey, where’s Al?” wondered Ed.

Brosh laughed. “I punched him and gave him the same lecture as you..” He lifted his throbbing fist. “and nearly broke my hand in the process!”

Ed laughed. “Yeah he’s got a pretty hard head, huh? Haha!” Then he winced in pain and clutched his side.

“Ha..ha..ha.” he chuckled, tears in his eyes, probably from a mix of pain and laughter.

You giggled. “Don’t overexert yourself, tough guy.”

He groaned. “I just remembered...there’s something else i’m gonna get yelled at for..”

You facepalmed.

“She’ll kill us, Ed.” you said.

(time skip)

“Hello, Rockbell Automail Outfitters.”

“Hey, Winry. It’s Ed.”

“Oh, Ed?”

“You sound surprised.”

“It’s just that... you never call.”

“Yeah..Anyway. I kinda busted my arm. And Y/N screwed up her leg a little. Could you come here to do repairs?”

“You want me to come to you? Don’t be lazy. Why can’t you come here?”

“I kinda can’t right now. I can move my fingers, but that’s about it.”

“And I can’t move my ankle or the base of my foot.” you interject, leaning towards the phone.

“What did you do?”

“I..We kinda got in a big fight.”

“You moron! I told you to be more careful and!....”

Ed held the phone away from his ear. Then it was silent. “Hm?” he questioned. He moved it back to his face.

“Where in Central?”

“Eh?”

“I said, i’m coming. Where in Central?”

Ed raised his eyebrows in surprise. “Yeah. Ok. Yeah. Mmhmm. Ok.” He hung up.

“Was that your girlfriend?” asked Brosh.

Ed and you stiffened, which caused Ed’s wound to open up and your ribs to send out angry waves of pain and nausea.

(time skip)

“So, what did your girlfriend say?” asked Brosh as he wheeled Ed down the hall, you walking beside him.

“I told you, she’s not my girlfriend.” Ed grumbled.

“Aw! Don’t you want a girlfriend?” Brosh grinned.

“Don’t want one, don’t need one.”

“Oh, c’mon. When I was your age, I had a different girlfriend every week!”

An irk appeared on your forehead. “That’s toying with the emotions of naive maidens. The philosophy of a young girl’s mind is rather complex and fragile. By performing such an inconsiderate act, you break apart one of the delicate branches of an impossibly intertwined crystalline tree.” you lecture.

Ed and Brosh stare at you like you came from another planet. You roll your eyes, laughing to yourself.
