It was around 2 am and Jughead was peacefully sleeping in Archie's warm embrace when he started hearing whimpers. At first, he thought that it was just his imagination or a dream of some sort. But after a few minutes, they started getting louder. Jughead's eyes snapped open when he heard Archie saying his name.
Jughead looked up at Archie to see tears running down his face and hear whimpers coming out of his mouth.
'So much for not worrying about what's to come' Jughead thought worriedly
"Archie?" He called out quietly
When he got no response, he called out his name again. This time louder than the last.
"Archie!"
To Jughead's complete and utter shock, he still hadn't woken up. Instead, he started to toss and turn violently. His body was drenched with sweat and there was a steady stream of tears coming from his eyes. He continued to toss and turn before he screamed Jughead's name and lurched into a sitting position.
"Archie?" Jughead asked quietly, trying not to scare him.
Archie was pale and shaking violently, as if he was freezing. He looked over at Jughead and met his eyes. Jughead was shocked at the amount of pain in them.
"Archie?" Jughead asked again
A tear slipped down Archie's cheek as he launched himself at Jughead. Shocked, Jughead wrapped his arms around Archie and held him as he cried.
"What happened Arch?" Jughead asked quietly
"It..... it was-" Archie tried
"It's okay if you don't want to say it." Jughead said comfortingly
"I do... it's just..." Archie sighed, trying to stop crying, "I..........."
"Do you need some time?" Jughead asked
Archie nodded and buried his head into Jughead's chest. Jughead could feel tears seeping through his shirt, but he didn't care. He just rubbed Archie's back in hopes of comforting him.
By the time Archie had completely calmed down, both of them were almost asleep. Jughead continued to rub Archie's back while Archie cuddled into him.
"Archie?" Jughead asked tentatively
"Yeah Jug?" Archie responded
"Do you still want to talk about it? You don't have to if you don't want to," Jughead said quietly
Archie hesitated before nodding. He really didn't want to relive the pain that he had gone through for a fifth time, but maybe talking about it could make it stop happening.
"You died." Archie whispered in a broken voice
"What?" Jughead asked, shocked
"You died. Every time, the same thing happens. Your arms and legs are bound in chains. The chains that are holding you up are coming from something that I couldn't see. There's blood running down your lip and side. And then, someone starts attacking you. Beating you. Whipping you." Archie took a deep breath. "Killing you."
"Arch..." Jughead sighed
"There's more." Archie continued, "I was there. I tried to save you, but I couldn't move. I was stuck in quicksand. I kept yelling for them to take me in your place, but they wouldn't listen. You were screaming my name. Begging me to save you. You were writhing in pain. I couldn't do anything. The more I tried to get to you, the less I could move. Then, another person comes out with a knife...." Archie trailed off
Jughead sighed. "Babe, that'll never happen. I love you and I'll never leave you. I don't care how bad and/or crazy things get. I will always come back to you."
Archie was shocked at the nickname, admission of love, and the promise. Archie cuddled back into Jughead and tried not to cry again. All of this was emotionally draining. He looked up at Jughead, who was teary-eyed, and kissed him.
"I love you too Jug." Archie said lovingly.
They laid back and relaxed in the other's embrace, this time, falling into a peaceful sleep that would last until morning.
