It was only the second time Elvis had awoken with a woman curled up in his arms-both times Sophia-and this time was even better than the first. He smiled. Last night had been incredible. More than amazing. But this morning was even better.

Sophia was warm and soft and smelled of...him. the exotic scent of last night's fucking had drifted up from twisted satin sheets. Her fingers were tangled in his chest hair, the tingle of her touch lingered on his skin. Residual magic? Maybe.

She stirred. His dick stirred.

He could get used to this.

His reverie was interrupted by the telephone. He frowned. It was far too early for the world to intrude. Trouble? He gently eased from under Sophia and lifted the receiver.

"Hello."

"It's Marceau."

The vampire. Elvis checked the time. It was about an hour before sunrise. "Have you found anything about Marcolf's attack on me?" He asked.

"I have. You're not going to like it."

"Tell me."

"Not so fast. Presley. Aren't you forgetting our bargain?"

Elvis glanced out of the window. A slash of indigo quivered in the black sky just above the treetops. "There's hardly enough time for that tonight. You'll just have to trust me."

Marceau laughed. It raised the hairs on the back of Elvis's neck. You had to admire the guy. He had creepy down to a fine art.

"I don't think so," the vampire said. "Meet me at the forest edge. I'm there now. And Elvis?"

"Yea?"

"Bring the woman."

Elvis quickly got dressed, then returned to the bed. He sat down on the edge and gently shook Sophia's shoulder.

"Wake up, honey."

Her eyes fluttered open. She took in his clothes. "What's wrong? Where are you going?"

"To meet Marceau." He told her about the call.

Except for-

"What aren't you telling me?"

Damn their connection. This was one time he did not want her reading his thoughts. "Nothin."

She sat up and took his hand in hers. "Don't lie to me, Elvis. I can tell."

He sighed in irritation. "He wants me to bring you, but-"

"Then I should go with you."

"No. No way. I know how you feel about vampires. And you already know what he's after."

She stood up from the bed, Grabbed her negligee from the floor and headed straight for the secret passage. "Elvis, if he's going to drink your blood I need to be there. To make sure he doesn't try anything."

He followed after her as she quickly ran along the dark passageway. "Baby, if you're there, he'll want you, too."

They emerged into her room and she went to her closet. Her mouth took on a stubborn set as she grabbed clothes. "I can take care of myself!"

He snorted, following in the bathroom after her, "Sure, like you did at Pandora's box?"

"I saved your life, didn't I?"

He gritted his teeth. Stubborn woman. "There's no time to argue, honey, it's almost dawn."

"I'm not arguing. I'm coming with you." She took a quick shower and dressed even quicker. "I assume Marceau is in the forest. Just don't forget, I can't go beyond the treeline," She said, leading the way down to the side entrance. "Not until after daybreak. Or I won't be able to leave."

"I remember."

"We'll wait in the meadow. Marceau can come to us. But we'll have to deal with the gate guardians."

"The old couple? Can you send them away?"

"Yes," She said. "They'll listen to me."

Outside, darkness hovered over the Manor, dimmed only by the glow of the nighttime rainbow overhead and a thin silver of slate blue above the wood. Elvis located the towering oak, and easily spotted the lone figure standing as still as death in the black void of the dense trees beyond.

He took Sophia's hand and tugged her to his chest. Holding her close, he apported to a spot near the treeline behind the oak. But not too close. Marceau stepped out of the blackness onto the shadowed meadow.

His gaze flicked to Elvis's arms around sophia and a malicious smile crossed his lips.
