Elvis awoke to the deafening crash of thunder and a searing pain that burned through his body like the fires of Hell. How was that possible? He no longer had a body. Yet every cell screamed in agony. He squeezed his eyes shut and covered his ears, doubling over against the pain and the thrashing icy wind. Then as quickly as it started, it was over. And he was left standing on his own unsteady feet. Warily. He opened his eyes. And saw-
"Sophia!"
She smiled and opened her arms.
He fell into them. And held her as he'd thought he'd never do again. He squeezed her tightly to him and kissed her and laughed with her and cried with her. He wondered if he'd look up in a minute and she'd be gone and he'd still be captured in his scarlet prison. But she felt solid and wonderful and she didn't dissolve into thin air, but kept saying his name over and over and over again, as though she couldn't believe they were together, either.
"Am I dreaming?" He asked. "Is that really you?"
"It's really me, sweetheart." She hugged him fiercely. "Thank God you've come back to me."
The wind was extremely icy but his trembling wasn't from the cold. His body shook with the joy at being there. Back in her arms.
"You're freezing. Here." She handed him some clothes.
"No, I'm-" He suddenly realised he was standing there naked as the day he was born. "Okay, Maybe a little."
She was trembling, too. He quickly slipped into his clothes and brought his arms back around her.
"Do I look the same?" He asked worriedly. The older inculti demons could shape-shift; they changed bodies regularly. But Elvis's lot didn't have that power. Maybe he'd changed....
"You're even more handsome than before," She assured him with a long, loving kiss.
He kissed her back, moving his body against hers. Needing the reassurance of her response. The proof of her touch that it was really her. That a miracle had happened and he was really free. She smiled back and his whole world lit up.
"Elvis," She murmured, kissing him tenderly, "we should probably go down and let the others know that you're all right. Aurora was very worried."
He jerked back in alarm. "Aurora?"
"The crystal shattered when she chanted the reverse spell. You should of seen the wind and lightening. That's never happened before."
He stared at her in aghast. "Wait. You're saying Aurora brought me back?" He couldn't have been more shocked. Aurora hated demons. Aurora hated him.
Sophia nodded. "Shes a good person, Elvis. Thanks to you I understand that now. She see our love, and respects it. It's a start. She went to the High council and told them what happened."
"And they let her bring me back?"
"You won them over as well. They're waiting downstairs for us, too. Aurora says they'd like you to work for the cadre, as an initiate, if you're willing."
It was almost too much to believe. "Anything," he said, wrapping his arms around her and holding her close, close, close to his heart. "I'll go anywhere to be with you, Sophia."
"All I want," She whispered, "is for you to stay with me always. Forever. That's all I want, Elvis."
"That's all I want, too. More than anything. But won't your father try to stop us?"
"No," She said, her voice filled with happiness. "Aurora said he has given us his blessings."
"But...how? Why?" Elvis whispered, rocking her back and forth. He would never ever let's her go. But he just didn't understand how all of this had happened. How he'd suddenly gotten to be so lucky. How he'd been granted his hearts greatest desire, a chance to spend his life with this amazing woman.
"Love," She whispered softly, holding him just as fiercely as he held her. "I never understood it's power before. Love is more potent than the greatest magic. Stronger than the worst evil. Love brought you back to me, Elvis."
He believed it. With all his heart he believed. It was so new to him, this incredible emotion, but he'd never felt anything more powerful. More compelling. More wondrous.
"I do love you, my beautiful Sophia," he answered gently. "More than anything. More than life itself."
"I know you do," She said, looking up at him with adoring eyes. "And I love you, too."
"Marry me," he whispered, drowning in the love he had for her. "Take my name and be my wife. Be my love forever and ever."
She gave a little gasp, and her eyes Swan with tender emotion. "Oh, Elvis. I will," She whispered. "Ive always been yours. And I always will be, sweetheart. Yours, for all eternity."
