It Takes Time

For God's Sake

- Yeah, pregnant, Dr. Woods said.
- Can we give them some time, Simone asked.
- Sure, Dr. Woods said.
The girls and Dr. Woods left from out of Alex's room, leaving Derek and Alex alone. He pulled up a chair next to her bed. He tried to grab her hand, but she jerked it away.
- Babe, I'm sorry for what I did. I wasn't in my right mind and I can explain, he said, breaking the silence between them.
- Derek. . . I trusted you. You know what I went through with my parents and. . . and. . . you really hurt me, she said.
- I know I fucked up. I know I did, but I wanna make it up to you.
- HOW?! TELL ME THE FUCK HOW? YOU CHEATED ON ME AND I CAUGHT YOU!!
Alex started to break down into tears. She really was heartbroken now. She couldn't control her emotions no more. After the way she felt, it hurt her even more.
- Alex babe—
- I don't wanna hear it. Just get out.
Derek got up and left the room, leaving her in the room by herself. She heard a knock on the door and saw Star, Simone, and Bruce come in.
- You okay, Simone asked.
- Yeah, I'm okay. Where's Ms. C and Cotton?
- Cott had to go to work and Lottie at the coffee shop, Bruce said.
- We heard y'all convo, Star said.
- Star, y'all just don't understand how much I loved him, Alex said as she began to break down into tears.
The 3 of them went over to Alex's bed and comfort her while she cried in Simone's arms.
- Alex, I do understand your pain. That's the same way I was with Hunter, Star said.
- But, I loved him, Star. I don't know how to forgive him.
Another knock interrupted them. Carlotta walked in with coffee for the girls. They took a cup and gave Alex hers.
- How you feel, Carlotta asked as she sat on the edge of the bed.
- Ms. C, I just don't know what to do anymore. I'm pregnant, the love of my life cheated on me. I'm tired of getting hurt, she said while crying.
- Let's pray, she said.
The 5 of them bowed their heads as Carlotta went on to say this:
- Lord, please watch over Alex and the precious human she's carrying right now. We ask you Lord to please heal the broken hearts and the broken relationship between Alex and Derek for us. Amen.
- Thanks, Ms. C, I really appreciate it, Alex said.
- Yeah, Lottie knows how to pray now, Bruce said.
- Doctor said you'll be released tomorrow. But, he also said that you can't stress yourself out and eat all this type of food, Simone added in.
- I was wondering can I stay with you for a while, Ms. C, Alex asked.
- Sure you can, and you can just call me Carlotta, she replied.
- We'll be back here tomorrow to pick you up. You need to get some rest, Star said.
The women gave their goodbyes and Alex drifted off to sleep. Alex started to cry again because she was so hurt. After 15 minutes of crying, she looked down at her belly and spoke to the baby.
- Hey babygirl/babyboy, she said. Doesn't matter if you're a boy or girl, I will always love you and spoil you. Now, me and your daddy is going through some things. But, we'll pull through for you. I love you. Sweet dreams.
After that, she drifted off to sleep.

The next day, Alex was released from the hospital. Dr. Woods told her to not stress herself out and to stay away from greasy foods. Simone and Bruce picked her up from the hospital.
- It feels so good to be home, she said as they pulled into the driveway.
- It feels good to have you back home, Cotton said, greeting her at the door.
- What the doctor said, Carlotta asked.
- Don't stress myself out and stay away from greasy foods, she replied.
- Yeah, you've been stressing yourself out, Star said.
- I'm finna head upstairs to lay down a little, Alex said.
Alex headed upstairs to take a nap. 30 minutes into her nap, somebody tapped her on her shoulder. She turned over and saw Simone with Derek standing in the doorway.
- What's he doing here, she asked Simone, rolling her eyes.
- He wants to talk to you, she replied.
- Let him in, she finally said.
Derek walked into the room and Simone left out, closing the door behind her to give them privacy. He sat on the bed next to her.
- Look, I'm very sorry Alex. It's not what it looked like, he said.
- Derek, I saw the whole thing with my eyes. You cheated-
- I wasn't cheating.
- Huh?
- Uhh. . . You remember when I told you that someone raped my grandma?
- Yeah, why?
- The girl I was hugged up on was a detective helping me. One of the Bankhead crew members came by us and asked me was that my girlfriend and not to make it look suspicious, I had to play along.
- Babe, I'm sorry. I should of asked instead of jumping to conclusions.
- No, it's because Star told you to look. Didn't she?
- Well, yeah, she laughed.
He then grabbed her hands and looked into her eyes.
- Alexandra Crane, I love you. I will always love you, through thick and thin. We have a baby on the way and the best feeling is me being with you and our son/daughter.
The words that came out of his mouth made Alex fill up with tears. She was emotional.
- Derek, I'm happy that I can call you my boyfriend. God these hormones got me, she said as they both laughed.
The two engaged in a long, passionate kiss until Alex pulled away.
- I love you, she said.
- I love you too, he said back.
- You wanna show me how much you love me, Alex asked while biting down on her bottom lip.
- I surely do, he answered.
The two laid back on the bed and the love making began. . .
