 Anywho... Chapter Twenty-One

When I opened my eyes I was looking at an orange sky. Tall trees surrounded me and I felt the dirt and sticks beneath. I groaned as I felt a sharp pain in my forearm. There was a constant stabbing pain in my head. Slowly, I sat up, gasping at the pain in my ribs. Reaching up to touch my forehead I felt a sticky liquid and retracted my hand to find blood.

I managed to get into a standing position after crawling to a nearby tree. I used it to pull my body up, flashes of what had happened hitting me like bricks. Leaning onto the tree for a while, I finally moved my weak legs through the woods. I was slow, and hit a few trees every so often. It felt like hours before I came to an opening. I saw a road and a few cars passing by. Across the street I could see a house with an elderly woman outside. I tried to yell but my voice came out rough and quiet, barely making any noise.

I stumbled froward a bit but tripped and fell. I tried to scream but my throat seemed to close on me. Strangled noises came out of my mouth as I got back onto my feet, stepping forward. My voice finally seemed to come back as I let out a yelp as a car horn went off. The passing car itself narrowly missing me.

I saw the woman turn to me before turning back, but it took a second for the image to register through her head as she snapped her head back in my direction. She looked panicked before yelling something I couldn't understand. My legs buckled underneath me as I fell to the ground. My eyes fluttered a bit but I could see the woman and an old man run across the street towards me. My eye lids felt heavy as I found myself wanting to sleep.

My mind went blank.

Once again I woke up in an unfamiliar place with a throbbing headache. I slowly opened my eyes, letting them adjust to the bright lights. The walls were a pale yellow, a large window was on the right and several landscape paintings hung on the walls. A beeping sound directed my head to a heart monitor on my left, an IV stuck in my inner elbow.

Looking down at my right arm I saw it was covered by a red plaster cast, from my elbow to my wrist. Not caring about the pain that filled my body I pulled out the wires attached to me, sliding off of the hospital bed and looking around the room for my clothes. Though they were worn and dirty I put them on. The heart monitor had gone on a single beep loop and I knew the nurses would be in here soon. I quickly threw open the door, running out and going down the hall. I wheezed as the pain in my ribs was all to constant. Turning the corner I ran into a man, falling down behind me because of it.

"Wait, don't let her go!" I heard a man call.

I turned my head to see a man in a white lab coat, and a officer behind him running towards me. I panicked as I got to my feet. My plan was to run but the pain in my stomach made me bend over and gasp. I fell onto my knees, my vision blurring as everything went double.
