Opening my eyes I found myself staring at a deep red ceiling. Sighing I rose my hands to my face, wincing as I touched the fading bruises. It was just a dream, only a dream.

I hoped it was. But that hope had depleted when I realized I didn’t have red walls at home. I slowly sat up and twisted my body so my feet hit the floor. I slid off the bed and made my way towards the door. With sore ribs and a throbbing headache I opened the door about an inch and peaked through.

I could tell I was still at Scott’s and that didn’t sit well with me. But I won’t lie, something in me wants to listen to Scott and let him explain what’s going on. Like something is telling me there’s more to everything and he is what he says he is, as crazy as it might be. I sighed as I closed my eyes and put my head down. When I looked back up I let out a yelp, seeing a new but familiar face in front of me.

I slammed the door shut and locked it. Backing up I ended up in a corner of the room.

“Hey, I’m gonna get Scott okay.” The boy spoke. My eyes widened and I slid down the wall, covering my ears with my hands.

I just wanted to go home.

“Ash? Are you okay?” I heard Scott ask. The door knob shook as Scott tried to open it. “Ash, open the door. I need to talk to you.” Scott knocked his fist repeatedly against the door.

My mind wandered back to the last thing I remembered. A wolf in the woods, staring right at me. But when I fell it was replaced by a boy, the boy I had just seen moments ago. Am I going crazy or are there really such a thing as werewolves?

It’s not like either situation is better than the other.

“Ash, I’m going to knock the door down if you don’t open up!” Scott yelled through the door. I sighed heavily, my hands still covering my ears.

I stood up, using the wall behind me and slowly walked towards the door. Pressing my ear against the cold wood I could hear Scott order the other boy. “Bust the door down.” Scott said.

“I thought you were gonna do it.” The boy said with his voice slightly higher.

“I don’t want her to get scared.”

“How’s is it gonna change if I do it?”

“I don’t care if she’s afraid of you.” Scott told the boy. I couldn’t help but role my eyes, but in reality I was already afraid of Scott. I bent my head down and pushed myself off the door and swung it open just in time to see a blonde boy fly into the room, rolling onto the floor.

The boy groaned before slowly rising to his feet. “You could have told me you were opening the door.” He said.

“Sorry.” I mumbled.

The boy shrugged and then smiled, raising his hand for me to shake as he stepped toward me. I backed up quickly and watched his face fall slightly before he nodded.

               “I’m Preston. You’re…Ashton, right?”

I nodded. “Hi.” I squeaked.

Preston laughed and walked out the room, patting Scott on his shoulder. “I’ll see you guys later, and I hope you decide not to kick this loser to the curb.”

“Thanks for your input, Pres.” Scott replied sarcastically as Preston disappeared. Scott turned to me and smiled, but it was a sad one. “Um, want to go for a walk and we can talk?”

               I nodded. “Sure.”

Scott smiled and reached for my hand. I let him take it and shivered as sparks exploded up my arm. I took a deep breath before allowing Scott to lead me outside. Once we made it to the bottom of the steps I looked over my shoulder to see the girl and boy that spoke to Scott in the large room before I ran out. The boy looked at me with a sense of uneasiness but nothing too harsh, while the girl gave me a welcoming smile. I gave her a small smile back before leaving with Scott.

Scott and I silently walked towards the woods and I tensed up, squeezing Scott’s hand tightly.

“It’s alright; this is what I wanted to show you.”

               “You’re wolf” I muttered.

“Do you really think I’m crazy?” Scott asked me as we walked into an opening, the evening sky surrounding us.

“What am I supposed to think, to me you were just some kid who believed he was a werewolf. Along with your whole family. What do I know about that?” I said with a shrug.

“Yeah, I guess it is a lot. I knew you weren’t ready, I didn’t want you to hear it like that.”

“Sorry, for calling your whole family crazy psychos.”

“I don’t remember you calling us psychos.” Scott chuckled.

“Guess it was more in my thoughts.” I mumbled.

“So, you don’t think we’re crazy anymore?” Scott asked.

I sighed, not looking at him as I twirled my fingers with his. “I saw a wolf in the woods, but then I saw Preston. I put the two together, but I wouldn’t have if I hadn’t of…um-”

“Eavesdropped?”

I nodded, biting my lip and looking down. Looking back up, I pursed my lips. “Show me.”

“You sure?” Scott asked.

I nodded. “Show me your wolf.”
