"Renae is, by no means, a bad person." I started the discussion. This earned me a few doubtful looks from the people who trust her already.
"What does that mean?" Asked Lane.
"I mean, we can't trust her just yet. First, why was she alone when we found her? Second, we can't let our guard down," *snap* "like that." I waited for a response. None came, just a few faces of understanding or indifference. "Next up, food. We all know that we will need more soon. Any ideas as to where we might get some?" A few minutes passed, everybody thought of at least one place, but one idea definitely stood out. Someone thought of finding seeds and starting a garden, which was a great idea.
"That's really all we needed to talk about, but now that we have, we need some volunteers. We're taking a trip to ACE. We'll have two groups, one on neutralizing the area beforehand and defending, and one on gathering supplies." James, Linea and Chris were on the clearance team and Lane, Joseph, and I were on the gathering team. We all grabbed our silent weapons and jumped in the raptor.
I drove as fast as I could, and we got there in a matter of minutes and as soon as we did we started gathering. Starting with me finding a new weapon. I looked for a couple minutes and found brand new Gerber survival blade, lightweight, strong, perfect length to prevent scratches. Perfect.
As I returned to the front counter, they were trying to carry the entire rack of seeds. Just as they reached the door the clearance team ran in and locked the doors. "We're going through the back, there's a way to the truck from there." Said Chris. Before I could ask why, a group of zombies banged against the glass.
I'd seen zombies up close before, but these were by far the ugliest. These were decaying and/or had chunks taken out of them in random areas. There were some crawlers, ones without legs. I couldn't help but stop and stare... They were such violent creatures, always eating or feigning their death until food comes their way so they can eat again or for the first time. It could make a person go crazy if they let it...
Just then, Chris thumped me in the back of the head, bringing me back to the current situation. I looked around frantically for a moment, taking it in. I started helping to carry soil for the plants, looking briefly over my shoulder at the door. There was now a small crack in the center... "Guys, we'd better hurry!" I yelled ahead. The weight of the situation started to kick in and I ran out the back door and threw the bags in the back. Chris was already in the passenger seat, stabbing through a slit in the window when I got in. As I slammed the door, I was already backing out of the alley way and then driving as fast as I could back to the school.
When we got there, I guarded the people unpacking. Thankfully, nothing happened.
After they got done I parked the truck and walked back to the gap. I briefly looked back and my heart sank a little, for on the road I saw something very familiar.
A large group of ugly.
