hyunjin nervously fumbled with the tiny golden box wrapped in silver ribbon in his hands. tonight, after areum convinced him earlier, he was spending some time with maci before her birthday party started.

he felt anxious to know what her reaction may be when she sees the gift he gave her. it was a simple necklace that was very expensive, but hyunjin saved a lot of his allowance to buy her it. he hoped that his necklace wouldn't become one of her many other ones and wished for it to be something special to her heart.

and so the two were meeting up at the park. he was there earlier because he was rehearsing some lines in his head that he would tell her with all his heart. he smiled, knowing that maci was going to come. hyunjin knew it wasn't a date, but it kind of felt like it was their first date when they started dating.

hyunjin also reminisced when he asked maci out. it was during the time when areum was avoiding him, and he wasn't in his right mind, but maci was there to support him. they were behind the school talking to each other until hyunjin stepped up his game and asked her out.

maci was quiet at first, and he was scared that she was going to reject him, but when he saw the huge smile on her face and a nod of her head, she proved him wrong. that was how they officially started dating.

"mr. nice guy, did you buy me some flowers?" he heard her say behind his back while he was facing the other direction. hyunjin turned around to see maci walking towards him gracefully and his heart began to race as he began to sweat ferociously.

"y-you wanted flowers?" hyunjin mumbled, mentally face palming at how dumb he was for forgetting about giving her flowers. he could see the disappointment in her eyes when she found him empty handed, and hyunjin felt guilty. "i-i'm sorry.." he lowered his head down shamefully.

maci forced a smile out. "it's not a big problem. what matters is that we spend the day together for my birthday before the actual party." hyunjin looked back up from the ground, grinning. he made sure that the box was hidden deep inside the hoodie of his sweatshirt so maci didn't know where it was located.

"can i consider this as our first date?" hyunjin cautiously asks her, waiting patiently for her reply.

maci couldn't help but smile at his words. he was literally shining, and she felt warmth in her chest, but sadly she chose to ignore it. "our first date it is. let's go." she grabbed hyunjin's hand and ran ahead, tugging him along.

hyunjin didn't forget about the happy feeling he felt that sprout in his heart. for once he was glad maci was finally giving him a chance to show the real him.

the couple stopped by a small shop that sold cute stuffed animals. there was one particular plushie that caught maci's eyes in which hyunjin saw her look so excited about it.

"can i get that black cub please?" hyunjin asked the seller who grinned back at him and nodded their head. maci watched in awe as hyunjin paid for the plushie and handed it to her with joy. "here."

the cashier examined them carefully with a small smile on her face. "you two are a nice couple."

both perked their ears up at that. hyunjin flushed red and he turned flustered while maci smiled kindly. she told her, "thank you." then the two left the shop as maci contemplated herself to break the news to hyunjin. but she was having too much fun to make their date all too sad.
