In the darkness, I could feel my face smashed into a hard plastic surface. There was a green illumination in front of my closed eyelids, and I blinked, realizing I was back in the mustang.
"Justin?"
"Just lay down Ash. I'm taking you home."
"No.. don't take me home," I responded, rubbing my eye-lids, and laboring to focus.
"Just lay down,"he commanded, and I rested my heavy head back on the hard plastic. How did I get back in the mustang? I thought to myself.
"Take me to Daydreams spa... I have to go there," I said with a ragged, sandpaper voice.
"What's that?"
"It's on the strip center just down the street. I have to go there."
Justin sat back, resting on the cushioned leather of the driver's side seat. The muscles on his arm bulged from his sleeve as he extended out a single arm to grasp the steering wheel. He used his other hand to run his fingers through his golden hair, as the green lights from behind the dash reflected off of his skin. In a way, it made me feel better because he may not have been able to tell for sure that I was truly turning green, thinking it only a product of the lighting.
"Okay... whatever you say," he shrugged.
The car sped up as we passed through every intersection with a green light, and soon I could hear the screeching of his tires as he turned into the deserted parking lot. Every light at each establishment was shut-off. I looked up at the building, reading each sign as I always had before. The big block lettering for Daydreams Spa was just as I had left it. I flung off my seat-belt and opened the passenger door just as Justin pressed on the brakes.
"Wait!" he exclaimed.
"What?" I whipped my head to look at him.
"Can't I get your number or something?" he asked.
"My number? No,"I responded, turning to leave.
"Wait...Ashley... How are you going to get in there? It looks like it's closed," he said.
"I'll find a way. Just go," I said as I turned from him and started walking toward the glass doors.
I heard his driver's side door shut followed by the thud of his shoes against the concrete. His footsteps grew closer behind me as I shuffled up to the front of the building. I put each of my hands to the side of my face as I pressed my nose against the glass. I could see the long desk with the chairs along each wall. I pulled on the doors, but they had been securely locked.
"Why don't you let me take you home? It's closed. You can come back tomorrow."
My skin color was hidden in the shadows of night, but I was almost certain he would see me if I allowed him to linger around for too much longer. I suppose I could have chalked the green skin up to being sick, or a poor representation based on the lighting in the car, but how long would that last? I pushed my palms against his strong pectorals, and gave him a gentle nudge.
"No, I have to get in there. You don't understand," I said. My fists beat against the door. I continued to press my nose in the glass as I peered into the dark waiting room.
"Dr. Jillian! Dr. Jillian! Please open up!" I pleaded.
I could feel the embrace of a big, strong man around my stick arms as they flailed about. The strength in his grip comforted me like a child with their blanket, and tears began to form in my eyes, pushing past the tear ducts and streaming down my green face. I didn't want to cry,but I did. Being beautiful and having his attention was great and all, but this isn't quite what I had in mind.
