07; The Attack

2016 ― London, England
"No, not me. . but someone will. If you two interfere, that's how it works now."

Steve, Katherine, their children, and Sam were all now in Sharon's hotel room, watching on the news that the United Nations complex was bombed in Vienne during the Sokovia Accord signing. Katherine, Steve and Sam stood in front of the TV, watching. Sharon was pacing, while she was on her phone, and the twins were sitting down on the bed, waiting for word from their parents, but still listening to the news anchor.

"A bomb hidden in a news van ripped through the UN building in Vienna. More than 70 people have been injured. At least 12 are dead, including Wakanda's King T'Chaka. Officials have released a video of a suspect who they have identified as James Buchanan Barnes, the Winter Soldier." The news anchor spoke.

Steve took a deep breath, while Sam looked over at the couple for their reactions. Two years, they've been looking for Bucky and coming up short. Two years, and suddenly here he was. "The infamous HYDRA Agent linked to numerous acts of terrorism and political assassinations." The news anchor spoke. Katherine shook her head while taking a deep breath before muttering.

"Son of a bitch."

"Yeah?" Natasha's voice came through the phone when she answered Katherine's call. She and Steve made their way to Vienna, with Sam and the kids, but they were in disguise. Steve had on a hat and a pair of sunglasses, while Katherine had on a pair of sunglasses as well, and her hair tied up in a bun.

"Are you okay?" Katherine asked her friend.

"Uh yeah, thanks. I got lucky. I know how much Barnes means to you and Steve. I really do. Stay home. Take your kids and both of you stay home, you'll only make this worse. For all of us, please, Kat." Natasha pleaded with her friend.

"Are you saying you'll arrest us?" Katherine asked.

"No, not me. . but someone will. If you two interfere, that's how it works now." She said.

"If he's this far gone, Nat, Steve and I should be the ones to bring him in." Katherine said. She had the phone on speaker, but Steve had yet to speak, they both looked at Natasha from where they were hiding, and Natasha was trying to find them, but she couldn't.

"Why?" She asked.

"Because, we're the ones who are least likely to die trying." Katherine said, and then she hung up the phone. Steve and Katherine walked back inside the cafe where Sam and their children were waiting for them, all of them wearing hats and sunglasses. Steve took a deep breath.

"Did she tell you two to stay out of it? Might have a point." Sam said.

"He'd do it for me." Steve said.

"We both would." Katherine said, referring to the fact that if the roles were reversed and it was Bucky trying to help Steve, Katherine would do everything in her power to help Bucky save him as well.

"In 1945, maybe. I just want to make sure we consider all our options. The people who shoot at the two of you, usually wind up shooting at me." Sam said. Steve took a deep breath and looked at his twins.

"Alright, you two think you're ready? Now's the time." Steve said.

"Don't get too excited though. This isn't exactly the mission we would've liked to have brought you in on. If Bucky is still under HYDRA's mind control, he's dangerous, and he will try to hurt the two of you, it doesn't matter that you're our kids, so if you're going to do this with us. You need to listen to us, and do exactly what we say. Am I understood?" Katherine asked, both twins nodded their heads.

"Yes, Mom. . we promise." Christian said.

"Good." Katherine said. Then Sharon Carter came and joined them at the bar. Katherine apologized to Steve for keeping Sharon's identity a secret, since she knew exactly who she was back when they lived in D.C. But she was letting Sharon do her job and protecting her identity.

"Tips have been flooding in since that footage went public. Everybody thinks the Winter Soldier goes to their gym. Most of it's noise. Except for this." Sharon said, sliding a file over towards Katherine and Steve. Katherine took it carefully as none of them made eye contact with each other and Sharon continuned to speak. "My boss expects a briefing, pretty much now. . so that's all the head start you're going to get." Sharon said to them.

"Thank you, Sharon." Katherine said.

"You're going to have to hurry. We have orders to shoot on sight." She said, and then she walked away, leaving the five of them. Steve sighed and he slightly turned to Sharon.

"We'll get him before then." Steve said and then he turned to his wife. "I can't ask you to put your life in danger, not for this. You should just take the kids and get somewhere safe." Steve said, and Katherine shook her head.

"Good thing you're not asking me. I'm with you, and they're with us. We're going to do this together, and like you said last year, if we end up losing, we're going to do that together too." Katherine said. Steve leaned forward and gave her a kiss on the forehead, before nodding.

But he still felt uneasy about the whole thing.
