When I heard the siren of the ambulance as it approach us, hope swelled in my heart. The distinct sound of ambulance grew louder and louder, drowning out the words I was trying to tell Tyler’s body.
“Tyler!!”
I yelled in panic as I saw his eyes close despite my please for him to stay with me. He had been looking up at me in a blank, glassy stare - I didn't even know if he heard or understood every single word I have said.
The ambulance raced at our direction and rushed us at Taguig Hospital --- the nearest hospital from the NAIA with a team of emergency nurses and doctors were already waiting.
I ran with them, following the stretcher through the corridors as they hurtled towards the Emergency room. My hands gripped one of Tyler’s tightly, unwilling to break contact. I couldn't bring myself to let go.
Lying there, He looked so pale, his face and lips as white as the sheet he lay on. A group of nurses actually had to hold me back as I attempted to walk past the double doors of the ER.
"Listen, you can let me in. I'll go through all the necessary procedures, just let me see him..." Despite my strong protests the light in my eyes were dead, my voice lacking its usual confidence.
Eventually after several minutes, Liam arrived to see me trying to push aside a group of people, demanding entrance in a raised voice.
From the hollowness of his gaze, perhaps he could already to tell that I was in a very fragile state right now. Liam placed an arm across my shoulder and steered me away from the door, subduing me with promises of exclusive information aboutTyler's condition.
In a reassuring voice he tried to appeal to my rational side, explaining that everything would eventually go well and that Tyler’s condition would be stable in just few hours but the few hours he was talking about seems like forever.
“I need to be there, Liam.. I need to be there for Tyler!” I insisted
Liam put me down smoothly with a brief argument about the increased possibility of contaminating the Emergency room with an infection.
That did it. I accepted Liam’s words and sank into a chair nearby, my face still fraught with worry. "Sit here," Liam instructed. "I'll call someone important"
I didn’t even had the effort to even look up, I just nodded at him and continued with my silent prayer
Those were the longest 60 minutes of my life. I spent each second staring at the door expectantly, waiting for news about Tyler. Half of me was still in shock and the other half didn't even know how to feel.
I don’t even know what’s going on with Tyler. I don’t even know half the truth behind why he fainted and why does he have to rush in an emergency room
Everything felt too surreal, like a bad dream I was supposed to wake up from. Yet time ticked on and the bitter scent of hospital air felt so clear, so tangible, so real around me and I just sat there alone.
My heart felt like it was going to explode and my head was a mess. Scenes from the airport played in my head over and over again like a broken record. When A woman in white appeared I broke from my trance, leapt to my feet and rushed towards her.
