Part 3: purple

     "Dear Marie Bolin,
Surrender and you will be sent to the surface as a Saru Tokai. Neither you nor your family will be harmed. You will be honored and will be able to live the rest of your life in peace, protecting Edis. This is your last and only offer."

The twins read the ultimatum silently. Marie folded the note in neat squares after reading and put it in her pocket. Her face was thoughtful, but none of those thoughts were apparent on her features. Matthew ran his hand through his hair. It certainly was a good offer. If the writer was telling the truth of course.

Somehow, Matthew felt like the note was real and he told Marie this. She didn't respond. Her eyes seemed far away and she looked at least 5 years older. It was a big decision to make. It was, after all, the last few months of her life she was bartering away.

"Even if we stay here it don't be much of a life for us." Matthew said softly. Marie nodded.

"I know that. I know It's a good offer. The only thing is that is doesn't mention what will happen to you. It says you won't be harmed, but that doesn't mean you'll get to go home."

Matthew was taken aback. She had a point. He had a feeling that it would all be fine but could he really trust his feelings? Everything was so confusing, what were they supposed to do?

"Besides," Marie began,"we need to find out what happened to your friend right?" She smiles softly. Matthew slowly begins to realize just how scared his sister is. She was normally all over the place. This new personality of her's was...almost creepy.

"Well I can't go with you. I'm not a Saru Tokai." Matthew answered, in an unintentionally cold tone.

Marie held her hand up to her chin thoughtfully,"....we could pretend you are." Her eyes began to sparkle again.

"Well...that didn't last long" Matthew though noticing her normally personality returning,"Yeah but my eyes aren't changing colour."

Marie pointed at Matthew almost to say "good point" and sat down on the couch dramatically,"Yes....but your eyes are a bit of a lighter green. You could say your eye colour is late. And if I heal someone I can say that we need the both of us to do it properly, all you have to do it place your hands near mine."

Matthew looked unconvinced. There were many ways for this plan to go badly. He did have an inkling that the officials wouldn't notice though. He also wanted to know what happened to Amani, and to stay near his sister to make sure she would be okay. She was annoying...but he loved her. It was her last few months as well. The startling reality of Marie being a Saru Tokai slowly closed in on Matthew and he felt his heart sinking.

"Alright." He said softly. The twins nodded at each other and headed out of the building.
