Part 3: purple
There was no sunlight. The shadow of the world above cast itself as far as the eye could see making the only lights the ones fastened onto the great pillars, towering hundreds of feel upwards. The twins pooled around astonished. It was what they should have expected, yet they didn't. One can never truly prepare themself for some things.
The two stepped out of the teleport at the same time and immediately got stuck in the door.
"Hey watch it you, thot! I'm going first!" Marie complained to her brother
"Said who? Also nobody has used the word "thot" since 2019 so grow up scrub!" Matthew retorted, unintentionally falling for his sister's childish insult.
"Hehheh well scrub is an even older word so get fucked you...fucker!"
Matthew could only shake his head in disappointment.
Right away a group of people began to gather around the arguing siblings. Many of them were young, the oldest only looking 24 at the most. Matthew noticed there didn't seem to be any officials around.
"Well hello again Matthew...Marie." a voice said, the owner nodding her head in greeting to each teen as she said their name.
Marie's now dark blue eyes widened,"Ms. Mortal?" She whispered softly. Standing in front of the two children was their previous teacher, looking as regal as ever.
She smiled,"Yes. It's been a while hasn't it? I'm still reeling about having to leave so quickly from the surface; I couldn't even say goodbye. I suppose you two have recently discovered that you are Saru Tokai?"
The twins nodded slowly, shocked. Neither of them had expected to see their English teacher again once she was sent to the surface. On closer inspection she had bright pink eyes, a sign that her powers were at their peak, but that she would also die soon. She was also acting a lot warmer than before, less proper.
The woman grinned,"ah yes. While being down here is absolutely horrible and I know I'll die soon, I've found it very freeing to not have any real responsibilities. Sure, we take care of the pillars but they don't need nearly as much maintenance as we give them, so that job is more a distaction than anything. I've never been happier!"
Her tone was sincere and Matthew could tell right away that she was telling the truth. It was a weird truth, and both twins were seriously questioning the sanity of their past teacher, but it was true. A realization struck Matthew.
"Wait how did you know I was noticing that you seem more relaxed? I didn't say anything about it."
Ms. Mortal grinned again,"oh that's my token. I can read and manipulate thoughts!"
"Well," Matthew thought," that's not creepy at all."
"Oh It's very creepy. Did you know that everyone here is a pervert? Also, Kevin here once stuck a toothbrush up his ass. His memory of it was very graphic." Ms. Mortal interjected on Matthew's thoughts as a young boy, seemingly Kevin, blushed vividly.
"I thought we agreed that you wouldn't share other's thoughts." He whispered timidly as he tried to hold on to some of his dignity.
"Oops. Forgot." Ms. Mortal replied, with no emotion in her voice whatsoever. Obviously, she hadn't forgotten, she just didn't care.
"So....can someone help us get unstuck?" Marie called out in an embarrassed tone. The twins has been stuck in the doorway of the teleport the whole time.
Someone from the back of the crowd used their token to lift up the teleport and shake it until the two fell out.
"Alrighty then now that that's all taken care of let's show you to your hut." Ms. Mortal proclaimed pulling the twins along through the crowd.
The hut was small but surprisingly stable with plenty of privacy but no insulation. The inside was bare of everything except two cots with three thin blankets and a pillow as well as a communicator in the back corner.
"The communicators are off for most of the time but once a month they give us internet and phone line access. Don't bother trying to use them when the internet isn't on." Ms. Mortal replied to the twins' thoughts,"also the showers are a few huts to your right and you can use them for 5 minutes a day. I suggest you use them after working; you'll probably get pretty dirty."
"Thank you Ms. Mortal." Marie answered brightly, still the same teacher's pet she was.
"Oh dear, call me Tiana." The older woman replied grinning again. Her smiles were too big to be natural and Matthew thought he saw something sinister beneath them. Maybe he was just imagining it though.
Soon the teacher left and Marie walked over to the communicator's screen. While most electronics had a black screen while off, this one had a silver one, giving it a mirror effect. Marie looked closely at her eyes for a while casting the room in silence.
"I think my eyes are purple now."
