(Part 1: Silver)
Sector 43's school was one of the older ones but had been maintained enough that it looked just as beautiful as any other building. It was mostly white with grey tones but every year the art students would create murals and paintings to decorate the building and grounds with colour and light. This year one student had done a portrayal of an ocean out of painted rocks. The mural was laid flat on the sidewalk so it would take up less space and people could walk on it. The janitors made sure it was clean most of the time. It was Matthew's favourite piece of art at the school so far.
Thr mural it'self was odd though. Nobody alive ln Edis had ever actually seen a real ocean. There was a freshwater lake in sector 33 and lots of indoor pools to swim in, but the ocean was a mystery to most people. Of course, they could view pictures and videos to see what the ocean looked like. If you went to sector 5 you could even watch a 4D virtual reality movie about what the surface world was like before the war, but it could never compare to the real thing.
The predicted rain started to fall causing the twins to look up. They take up shelter under a nearby tree. Marie looks over to her brother,"so....what're we doing today?"
Matthew frowns. HE would much rather just go home and watch t.v or something but, Matthew knew that Marie wouldn't stand for that,"how about the youth centre. Again." He replies a bit cooly. His sister's face lights up,"wonderful idea dear brother!" She replies suddenly dragging Matthew through the rain.
The teen centre, like the school, was an older building but it had much more colours. The entirety of the building was different shades of the rainbow. Most people say that the building was designed that way to honour all the lgbtq+ youth who had been treated unfairly before the war. Either way it was beautiful.
Once inside Marie all but abandons her brother for some friends of her's she saw at the entrance. The male twin simply walks over to the library section and looks through the books. He had already read most of these titles at one time or another, having been in this situation many times before. The books were rotated bi-weekly though so each time he seems to find something new.
"The Golden Pen."
"Lost In The Catacombs."
"Underestimated."
Finally the boy picks a book he hadn't read yet and signs it out at the front desk. Soon he is sitting in a bean bag chair enjoying the book.
"I've always seen things others haven't. I've know of the existence of things that most people only dream of. Angels, demons, ghosts. I've seen them all."
The story titled "the day nobody believed" starts out in the point of view of Sam, a charming and independent girl who has the ability to visit another dimension known as the "mystic realm". The first few chapters follow her as she tries to hide her abilities from a group of 2 overly curious scientists and a conspericy theorist. She gets into a whole bunch of sticky situations and has to lie and bluff her way out of them.
"Matthew!"
Marie's voice comes out of nowhere startling Matthew a bit. This causes the more rowdy sibling to laugh. She hands her brother an advertisement for "pen pals".
"And why the hell did you give me this?" He asks unamusedly
" 'cause you need friends dimwit." Marie answers
"No I Don't."
"Yeah you do."
"Fuck you."
"Just do the pen pal thing already."
"No."
"MATTIIIEEE!!!!"
"........fine."
Marie smiles at having won the argument,"awesome! ok have fun!" She turns away and walks off with her friends.
Matthew reluctantly walks over to a computer and follows the instructions on the ad. Soon a chat screen shows up with the username of the other person at the top. Matthew sighs and starts to type.
"Hello."
A few minutes pass without a response. It seems the other person had left their computer for a while. Matthew was about to leave himself when suddenly he gets a response:
"Hello."
Matthew sits back down in the chair a bit surprised.
"So what's your name?"
The response arrives right away this time.
"Straight to the point eh? That's fair. I'm Amani."
"That's a cool name. I'm Matthew."
"Nice to meet you Matthew."
Matthew leans back in the chair not sure what to say next
"So...what do you do for fun?"
"I read mostly. Sometimes I draw." Amani answers
Matthew smiles slightly
"That's cool. I read a lot too. I also watch t.v. When did you learn how to draw?"
"I taught myself. I'd say I only got good at It a few years ago though."
"That's great! I can't draw in the slightest."
"Cool."
"Shit they're getting bored." Matthew thought
"Where do you live? I'm in the 43'rd sector."
"......I'd prefer not to say."
"That's ok. So what do you want to talk about?"
The voice in Matthew's head started screaming a string of "shit shit shit shit..."
"Actually, I need to go. I'll talk to you later."
"Alright. Bye."
Matthew leans back in the chair again,".......well i fucked up."
