Oh, my dear reader
Look at that climbing meter
You have read my every book
In the warmth of a heater
I write so bad
But you overlook
I am more than mad
But you are not shook
Whatever yarn I cook
I know there's someone to look
Thank you for sticking along
Even when the words went long
Even when it became a logbook
Even when you were unhooked
Even when I couldn't reach the end
By hook or by crook
Even now I fail
My mind goes one way
And my words another, all astray
But I hope that you will wait
Even though its always late
And delayed, but not hate
For its my fate to create
The story that comes without a date
The words will take us
Like a zig-zagging snake-bus
To the next island where it shall sail
It is larger than any whale,
Much longer than the rail
And very, very pale
To see it, I trace it with a scale
And at the pace of a snail
I bring back to the world
That endless storybook trail
