Hi aesthete committee! I have a question. . . it's not much of a problem, but I need guidance with something I encountered with a school test. Our lesson was all about the ten commandments (more specifically, 'thou shall not commit adultery'). When answering a question for our finals, one item said something about a girl wearing revealing clothes; clothes held only by straps and shorts that were too high above the knee. We were asked to give advice to that girl. I didn't want to say 'wear baggier clothes' -- that's just wrong. I didn't know what to write, and I'm confused till now. Help?

Thank you for trusting the committee with your thoughts.

Firstly, it's odd that a school test would ask that --  it's downright wrong because students are taught of false values. Teachers aren't always right. When it comes to facts about their subject, I mean, yeah it's correct. But when it comes to topics like this, not everything they say is true. For a person to write a question like that shows how he/she clearly misunderstands day to day issues that femenists are standing for.

Secondly, I'd say that the best advice to give is be careful of predators and people with nasty intentions. Do not tell the girl to wear longer skirts or shirts with longer sleeves. As a female, I know the difficulty of going out wearing shorts or fitted tops. But how can't you when it's thirty six degrees outside? What if it's fashion -- expressing your style? What if you feel confident in it? What if you're finally comfortable in your own skin? Yes, wearing provocative clothing will cause attention, but if something bad happens to her like rape or catcalls -- it. Is. Not. Her. Fault. Predators are predators. Period. Victim blaming is wrong.

(note: client also mentioned that during class, their teacher vocally told them that 'women are asking for  it [rape] when they wear revealing clothes'.)

To put it simply, in my opinion, the test question is wrong. A woman is not asking you to touch her solely because of her exposed skin. She is not asking you to whistle, stare, or comment.

I hope this was able to help and put things into perspective for you. If you need any more help, feel free to talk to the committee (:
