Chapter 6

I had been looking for an hour and... Nothing, absolutely nothing.
"Okay think Kai, think! What has Crystal told you not to touch a thousand times. Where do you keep seeing her when you come into her room."
I stood in the middle of the dimly lit room. I scan every inch of the place again. My eyes rest in front of me. It was the painted wooden wall with tropical flowers around it.

(flash back)
" Kai don't touch the paint! You will scratch it and then we will have to take those flowers off."
"But mommy I like the white one and wanted to touch it."
My six year old self said.
"I said don't touch. The white one is not pretty at all. It is the only one and hidden by all the others."

(back to present)

I went up to the painting and looked for the white frangipani.
There you are.
I saw how the white one has faded a bit. I pushed against it and the wall disappeared.
I blinked a few times still trying to function how that happened but I have no time for that. I put gloves on so I don't leave any clues and I took out a black box, and put it down next to me. I went to the kitchen and measured the mass of the box and it's stuff inside. I then grabbed another identical black box from my room and emptied out its contents. I added things to is so it could weigh the same as the other one I found. I walked back to my parents room and replaced the box.
Now how do I close this wall.
I remember for the few times I wanted to come in the room I would hear taps, usually three. I tapped the wall three times and it closed.
"Well that was simple."
I went to my room and opened the mysterious box.

I found a few papers, a necklace with the silver chain attached to a ring and an old unopened envelope. I opened the envelope and read the note inside.

To my dear daughter, Calico Kline. I want you to have this heirloom, the necklace of our ancestors, the guardians of the Ring. You must keep it safe, for the evil of the galaxies will try and take advantage of it. Be strong, stay strong and never give up. You will be a great star knight when you are older. I have seen your future and it looks good, but only if you help and stay with the Star empire. The Black Hole empire will destroy everyone in their path to take over the universe.

I read the letter over and over again. I looked in the envelope and found another sheet of paper, it had a light blue stamp on the front of the folded paper, with a shield and an eight pointed star.

To Cameron Kline.

Captain, we are sorry to inform you that your wife's ship had ventured off course and into a black hole. We are sorry for you and your daughters loss.
Star Knights Council.

"So I don't have a mom and I don't know if my dad is alive?" I said softly. I looked at the other pictures and one caught my eye. It was a missing child, and the child was me.
I was taken away from my only family when I was one?
I looked at my clock and read the time. 8:45pm.
I put everything back in the box and closed the lid. I was about to put the box away when I saw the Star Knights badge on the top left hand corner. I touched it and instantly the box reduced its size to a jewellery box.
"Whoa." I opened the box and saw the necklace. I took it out and put it on. I fiddled with it.
I love you. And I always will Coco.
I looked at the necklace and saw it dimly glow.
Dad?
A tear ran down my cheek. I love you too Captain .
I wiped my tear away and put the black jewellery box in my secret cupboard draw.

I hopped on my bed and stayed there reading till
9:30 pm when I heard a voice.
You need to leave! They are coming after you. Leave now!
I didn't understand but I knew I had to listen. You don't need to pack anything! Just go!
As if!I do need to pack things in.

I ran to my cupboard and grabbed an extra top, leggings and underwear. I grabbed a small bag full of cash, my phone and charger, another one of Sam's hoodies and the jewellry box. I ran to my bathroom and grabbed the important things I needed. I grabbed a rain jacket and ran back to my bedroom and climbed out the window. It was easy and quick because my room was on the ground floor.

I ran.

I ran as fast as I could but still paced myself. I ran for the park and ran through the dense trees. I ran a couple more blocks and slowed down and stopped in an alley.
"Hey!" I heard a muffled voice through the rain behind me and I turned around. It was a boy about my age, about a head taller then me, holding a gun.
Of course this would happen.
Keep him with you. He needs to come with. I heard the voice say in my head.
"Give me your money! Or I will shoot you."
I hope she doesn't notice it's plastic. Please. I am just hungry and cold. I need food.
I heard him inward plea.

I look at him. This poor boy. It's sad that this happens to people. But he isn't like the people who drink and waste their money.
" Hey I am going to get something to eat. Do you want to join me?"
He looked at me shocked, "Really?"
I nod and blink my eyes, trying to stop the tears from falling, "Yeah. I think we both need some support right now."
He puts the plastic gun away and walks towards me, "Why do you say that. It seems you have everything great in your life. Mine, not so much."
I shake my head, "Don't judge a book by its cover. I am Kai by the way."
I stick my hand out.
"Michael." he shook it, "So where are we going?"
We walked across the road and through the doors of a empty Café. It was old fashioned and you could see it only had few customers daily.

"Evening how can I help you two?" a elderly woman asked. "Evening, can we have a table for two please?"
"Sure thing cupcake. Right this way."

We got menus and sat in the far back corner of the Café.
"So what would you like Michael?"
He looked up at me with his bright blue eyes and thread his fingers through his neatly cut but dirty black hair.
"Well I don't want to bother you and spend to much. I will get my order and I will be on my way."
I looked at him with pleading eyes. "Please no. I just need company and I was told for you to stay with me."
He froze, "Now you have to tell me something. When were you told this? Honestly."
I had to tell him the truth.
"When I turned and looked at you. After you said hey and pointed the gun at me."
He nodded. "Okay. How?"
I took a sharp breath. "I might sound crazy..."
"You hear the Voice. A voice told me in my mind I must stay with you at all costs. Tell me you heard a voice."
I nodded, "I have been hearing the voice for the past week."
He nods.
I take out my phone from my bag. "Hey I just need to message a friend quick okay?"
"Fine by me."

*messaging on ICE group.*
KAI: X! CAFÉ

"What does X mean? And what does ICE mean?" Michael asked.
"X means I'm in trouble and we need to go. And ICE means 'Incase of Emergencies'. If anyone sends and X, you pack bags, sneak out to the location sent." I said locking my phone.
"But how do they know which café we..." He started but the food placed in front of him cut him off.

We had finished eating and it was getting closer to 11:30pm
when the door opened.
"Kai?!"
I stood and waved, "Here!"
Sam and Rico ran over. Sam tackled me into a hug. "I was so worried. What is going on?! And who is this?"
Michael waves to the two boys, "Hi ."
"No time to explain we have to get moving." I grab my bag and Michael gets to his feet.
Rico turns to me, "Is this guy part of the 'we'?"
"Yes. Now let's get going. We have to find somewhere to camp while we wait for them."
I walk outside and turn the corner with the boys behind me.

I froze.

"Not so fast Calico Kline."
