After school
After school finally finished, Allie, Roxie, Jacob, and Bristol all went to the police station to start planning their patrol through the city.
"So, Roxie and I will go to the city, while you boys go to the park, forest, and any other smaller area you can think of." Allie told Bristol and Jacob.
"Sounds good! Let's do it!" Bristol nodded. He and Jacob stood up to leave, and Allie and Roxie left shortly after.
As they investigated the big city, Allie and Roxie noticed how it was oddly quiet, like nobody was there. It was very unusual for a city street with so many buildings surrounding it to be so silent, and it gave Allie chills because the silence was so eerie.
"Weird...it doesn't look like anybody's here. Isn't this usually one of the most busy roads in town, though?" Roxie asked Allie, turning around to look at her.
"Yeah...strange..." Allie commented. She noticed something move from the corner of her eye, and quickly looked in the direction she'd seen it. "What was that?!"
"What was what?"
"I saw something move over there!" Allie pointed at where she was looking.
"I don't see anything..."
Allie carefully stepped closer and looked around the corner of the building where the mysterious shadow had gone. There was nothing there.
"Weird...I know I saw something!"
"Maybe it was just a city rat. They're everywhere in places like these, after all." Roxie thought, simply shrugging it off.
"It looked too big to be a rat, though...I don't know. Whatever it was is gone now." Allie sighed.
The girls walked away, but Allie couldn't help but wonder what the strange shadow had been.
As they kept walking, Allie heard something behind them. She turned around to look, and nothing was there. She turned away and heard the noise again. Something was definitely following them.
"Um...Roxie...?" Allie asked Roxie slowly. Roxie turned to look at Allie.
"Yeah?"
"Do you ever feel like you're being followed...?"
"What are you talking about, Allie?"
"I heard something behind us, but whenever I look, there's nothing there! I think something, or someone is following us. They must be hiding whenever we try to look for them!" Allie seemed genuinely nervous.
"Maybe you should try asking them to reveal themselves..." Roxie suggested.
"Okay, I'll try it."
Allie walked back in the direction they came from and called to whatever was following behind them. "Show yourself! We need to see you!"
Nothing happened at first, so Allie tried again.
"Come on, come out here!"
After a while of waiting, a gray great dane came out from behind a corner. He had piercing teal eyes, and was wearing a long black coat. On the coat was a badge that Allie felt like she had seen before, but she couldn't tell what it looked like from far away.
"Who are you?" Allie asked him.
"Who, me?" the great dane chuckled. "Are you sure you want me to answer that?"
"Of course I'm sure! I work with the police, and we need to know who you are!" Allie continued.
"Well, if you insist." the great dane looked straight at Allie, but Allie felt like his stare had gone right through her. "My name is Gear. I own and work for a top-secret organization here in this city. Most of the world's most famous and recognizable villains work for my organization, and soon the whole world will, too! Starting with this girl."
Gear held forward a familiar-looking photograph. It was a picture of Madison from last year's school pictures!
"Maddie..." Allie gasped. She stared at Gear. "What did you do to my sister?!"
"Um, Allie, I think the question you should also be asking is: How did he get that picture of Maddie?" Roxie spoke up.
"I haven't done anything to your dear sister...yet. She needs more time to get comfortable before I can start transforming her." Gear laughed. His laugh was deep and sinister, and could cause anyone that heard it to be paralyzed with fear, but not Allie and Roxie. They were detectives; they were tough. "You have 72 hours before Madison is completely under my control. So if you want to save her, you'd better hurry up."
Gear left Allie and Roxie alone to figure out what just happened. All Allie knew was that her sister was in danger, and needed to be saved. Roxie was still wondering how Gear had gotten the picture of Madison, though.
"So that freak has my sister held hostage, huh?! Well, we'll see about that!" Allie growled.
"What are you going to do?" Roxie wondered.
"You'll see. First, let's go back to the boys and let them know what happened."
