Allie's Diary

Dear Diary,

Lately the detective team has been working really hard around town to keep everyone safe from criminals. In this week alone, we caught three criminals trying to rob a jewelry store. The owner of the store was so grateful he let us take any piece of jewelry we wanted to keep, free of charge! Today after school, we're going back to the police station to meet up and discuss our next patrol plan. I was thinking that Roxie and I would check the bigger parts of the city, while Jacob and Bristol patrolled somewhere else, like the park or forest.

Well, that's all for now, diary, but I'll be back soon!

Allie closed her diary and put it away after she finished writing, and went downstairs to get her backpack and head off to school. Her sister Madison joined her at the door and they walked to the bus stop together.

"Do you have another meeting with the detective team today?" Madison asked Allie as they waited for the bus.

"Yes. Today we're going to be patrolling parts of the city, making sure nobody's doing anything they shouldn't be doing." Allie answered.

"Cool! I wish I could join, but I'm so busy with afterschool activities that I just wouldn't have time!" Madison laughed. "By the way, did I tell you I joined our school's marching band? I play the trumpet!"

"Awesome! I'm so proud of you, sis!"

The bus finally arrived while the girls were talking, and as they got onto the bus, they sat together in the back. In the seat across the aisle, Allie's friend Jacob was on his phone, as he usually was.

"Hi Jacob!" Allie called to him to get his attention.

"Oh, hi Allie. I didn't notice you were here already." Jacob said, looking up from his phone. "We're still going to be patrolling later after school, right?"

"Of course! We have to keep this city safe!" Allie agreed.

At school

Allie walked into the school building and went to her locker while Madison walked down the hall to get to her locker, which was in a different part of the school. Allie stuffed her backpack into her locker, pulled out a couple of textbooks for class, and started heading down the hallway. On her way, she ran into Bristol, another one of her friends.

"Oh, sorry Allie! I didn't mean to get in your way!" Bristol instantly apologized.

"No, it's fine. Class doesn't start for another 5 minutes, so I wasn't in a big hurry." Allie smiled.

"Okay, well, that's a relief. I wouldn't want to cause you to be late or anything like that!" Bristol laughed.

Allie laughed with Bristol. She had known him since they were in 5th grade, and they had been good friends ever since. She really liked him. Some pets at school spread rumors that Allie had a crush on Bristol, but Allie only saw Bristol as a friend, and nothing more. She was too focused on schoolwork and detective work to really want a romantic relationship, anyway.

The bell rang, meaning it was time for Allie to head into class. She entered the classroom and sat down at her desk. At the desk next to her, a brown cat was twirling a section of her hair around her paw while waiting for the teacher. It was Roxie, Allie's best friend.

"Hey Rox!" Allie smiled at Roxie.

"Allie! You're here! I'm so glad I finally have someone to talk to now. I think the teacher's late again." Roxie replied to Allie. "So...how've you been?"

"You know you don't have to ask me that, right, Rox? I mean, we literally see each other every day!" Allie giggled.

"Yeah, I know!" Roxie laughed back, just before the teacher came in.

"Alright class, settle down. Let's begin our lesson." the teacher sighed.

Allie looked over at Roxie and whispered in her ear. "I think someone wants to quit her job..."

"Yeah!" Roxie giggled. The teacher didn't seem to hear them surprisingly, or maybe she did hear, and she just didn't care.

"Everyone, please open your textbooks to page 133. Let's get this over with."

After class

"Well, everyone, you may leave now. I'll see you all tomorrow."

Allie and Roxie were the first ones out of the classroom, eventually followed by everyone else. The girls went to Allie's locker to chat until Jacob and Bristol joined them.

"Hey boys! Lemme guess, your classes were just as boring as ours, right? Even our teacher sounded bored!" Roxie greeted the boys.

"Well, I don't know if boring is the right word here. We had history, and I thought it was very interesting!" Jacob replied. Bristol nudged him.

"You're such a nerd." he jokingly teased Jacob.

"You know it!" Jacob laughed. "But seriously, did you know Ancient Egyptians used pieces of stone as pillows?! PILLOWS! Like, the kind that you put your head on!"

Bristol shook his head.

"That sounds very uncomfortable! I can't imagine doing that!" Allie commented.

"Yeah! Plus that would totally mess up my hair and get it all dirty! And you know it already takes me a lot of effort to keep it clean as it is!" Roxie added. "And there's no way I'd be confident enough to go out and patrol the city if my hair was all messed up!"

"Speaking of patrolling..." Allie spoke up. "We'd better get ready for that. Once school's out, we'll be heading to the police station, so we need to be totally ready for anything that might happen."

"Allie's right. We need to be prepared." Bristol agreed.

"Yeah!" Roxie cheered.

"Well, what are we waiting for?! Let's get started!" Jacob added.
