I stared at my phone not understanding what I'd just seen.
Before I could comprehend what I was doing my hand shot up in the air.
"May I use the restroom please?"
My teacher gave me an irritated look and waved her hand as if she was shooing a fly.
I grabbed all of my stuff and walked out of the class as soon as possible.
"This can't be happening." I whispered to myself.
I was going so fast I didn't see mr.Jung who was arranging the bulletin board outside the mathematics hall.
"Excuse me." He alerted me calmly. "I'd like to finish up what I was saying earlier now if you have the time." His eyebrows scrunched together in confusion and he leaned towards me just a bit. "Is something bothering you at the moment?"
I didn't know what to do, or say. Mr. Jung was most definitely not normal.... I mean there had to be some reason he's no where to be found on the web after 16 and he carries a gun on campus. That's not aloud.
I shook my head "I have nothing to say to you."
His eyebrows jumped just the slightest bit as he leaned back and turned towards the bulletin board.
"Esme is there something you're not telling me? Maybe something that is unsettling you?"
I scoffed and looked away. he's acting as if he didn't know already. "Look, forget about me being president and forget about everything I've said to you this year. Just stay away from me." I kept my head low and I rushed straight past him.
It was hard, rejecting his attempts to talk to me. I was scared of him, yet still severely attracted to him. But I wouldn't let a petty crush kill me, if those were his intentions anyway.
I rushed all the way to my dorm, where Ryan had already let himself in.
Once I closed the dorm door I finally felt like I could breath.
Ryan was sitting on my bed rubbing his hands together in deep thought.
"What do we do?" I simply asked while joining him on the bed.
He sighed "Show me what you found first."
I nodded and opened my laptop. The tabs were still up when I powered it on. When I went to click on the tabs the page was empty.
"No connection?" Ryan guessed.
"Couldn't be, my computer's connected to the WiFi right now. Look, Wikipedia still works."
I pressed on every tab where there had been information about Mr.Jung...and I found nothing. It's almost as if nothing was ever there in the first place.
I sighed and googled his name, then his previous name, then the article about Park Jimin—his rival that beat him in the dance competition.
A lot of information came up about Park Jimin but none of it included Mr.Jung, or Jhope (his stage name).
I read a little bit about Park Jimin while Ryan was getting impatient.
"That's odd." I mumbled and Ryan jumped up hoping I finally found something.
"Okay, so right after Jimin won the title to the best dance team— the team Mr.Jung was supposed to be on— he initiated a business with an undocumented partner and that following year when sales where at their peak he committed suicide out of no where."
Ryan nodded "Mr.Jung probably murdered him."
I gave him an irritated look "Ryan if I'm going to share this with you that means you're going to have to stop making rash useless insults about him. We don't know that, we don't know anything about him."
Ryan scoffed "Well we know he has a gun. Shouldn't that be worth something?"
"Yeah, but there's always more to it. He may need it. For what we know Mr.Jung could be a victim, not a predator or serial killer of some sort."
Ryan rolled his eyes and checked his phone when it buzzed.
"Do you need to go?" I was curious as to why he always checked his phone sparatically, but I didn't ask.
He shook his head and turned his phone faced down. "No, it was no one."
I paused but then started tapping at my computer again. "Did you take pictures of the gun?"
Ryan shook his head. "No, I took it."
My computer fell off my lap and hit the ground with a thud.
"What?"
Ryan shrugged "If we're going to turn the guy in, we need some sort of proof."
I ran my fingers through my hair, I was angry. For someone so cute, he really didn't have a single brain cell.
"Ryan this is exactly what I mean by rash and stupid decisions! We're not turning him in! That's not what we agreed on. We decided to figure things out, he's innocent until proven guilty."
Ryan shook his head "Whats up with you? Why do you want to protect him so much? He has a gun, no life on the web, and his business partner mysteriously committed suicide. It was him! Don't tell me you're thinking it's any different!"
I sighed and sat down. I couldn't do this with him right now. Were we actually fighting over this?
"Ryan you gotta listen to me. I'm not ready to make any dumb moves. You'll get in trouble too, for going through his stuff."
"I exercised my fourth amendment, I searched and seized his gun upon probable cause. The worst I could get is a suspension."
"Ryan you are not the cops. You can't just do whatever you please. You have to think before you do things from now on. If Mr. Jung is dangerous then we'd better not let him know that we're on to him. You should return the gun after taking pictures of it."
Ryan sighed "I just want you to be safe. I don't see why getting rid of him before anyone gets hurt is a problem."
The lunch bell rang.
" Trust me, please?" I needed him to listen to me. For some reason I just couldn't accept that Mr.Jung, the most brilliant man I'd met in my life, was capable of murder. He was too smart, and too put together. It was something else, it had to be.
Ryan bit his lip out of frustration and then placed his hand on my upper thigh. "Fine, I'll trust you."
I smiled and gave him a pec on the cheek.
He kissed me on the lips and pulled me closer to him.
After a couple of seconds I backed away "Okay, okay. We're going to miss lunch." I laughed.
He shook his head and removed his shirt. "Not hungry for food right now, just you." He winked.
I laughed pushing him away. "Oh no, we are not doing this right now. We shouldn't get distracted."
Ryan scrunched up His eyebrows. "Solving this mystery case is kinda thrilling-sexy, I wouldn't say being distracted is a bad thing."
Ryan's phone dinged again.
I shook my head "Well I'm hungry for actual food. This isn't a discussion." I walked out of my dorm towards the cafeteria now looking at my own phone.
Tangerine: I'll skin you if you're late to lunch or if you decide to ditch me for another dude.😡
Hey, I'm just a little late. No dude w me so no worries. Be there in a sec🤩
I closed my phone and I walked into the cafeteria. It was lunch time for everyone so Mr.Jung would be here. And I needed to make sure I had the best face on for when or if we crossed paths. He couldn't find out we were on to him. That could be bad, and possibly dangerous.
