Chapter 3: Home

Looking around, all I saw was darkness. The air was cold, raising the hairs on my arms. I couldn't see the guy who was carrying me at all, but he didn't seem to have an issue carrying me, even though I was a decent sized Junior in high school. He defiantly is stronger than the guys I know. It kind of felt like floating on air. For some reason, he was being careful with me. I had so many questions building up, but when I opened my mouth no sound came out. Groaning, I buried my face in my arms, slung over his shoulder. I really hate myself sometimes. I decided to just take a nap. I mean, I had a long day! First, I was the buzz of the school. Second, some random guy started destroying my second home and kidnapped me. I think I deserve a nap! My eyes slowly shut and I drifted off.

   "Is she alright?"

"She's breathing, isn't she. She is fine, just sleeping. I may have freaked her out a bit."

"Great! Just great. That's all we needed."

"Hey! It isn't my fault! Well, technically it is, but she was getting in the way! The Darings have always been targeted, whether they knew it or not. She was at the dance studio that has been specifically targeted by the Rio. I had to get her out of there or she could have been taken, killed.."

Unghhhaa... who is talking!? I was asleep! Last time I checked, it's rude to do that! I groaned and stretched out. Opening my eyes slightly, I saw two men. One was the one who kidnapped me and the other looked old. He had snow white hair, but looked very tough. He had a few wrinkles and some white scruff from a not-so-recently shaved beard. They were both looking at me with intense stares as if they expected me to do something. After blinking a few times, I looked around. My vision was still hazy from waking up a minute ago. Then it hit me. Where was I?

Panic surged in me. I was in a dimly lit room with a bed, a chair, and a bed side table. There was no windows and the walls were a dark brown. Kind of gloomy, if you ask me. I gripped the edges of the mattress I was on, my mind whirling. I took a few deep breaths to calm myself down, but it didn't work quite well, so I pinched myself. I tried to look confident while I spoke, "Where am I? I demand answers. I obviously deserve to get them, considering I was kidnapped!" My voice was raising with every word that poured out. The tall one with brown hair looked at me like he was amused, causing me to get angrier. "Who even are you people?"

The two men glanced at each other. Apparently, they understood each other by not even saying words. I had no idea what was going on. Time ticked on and they still hadn't answered me. I was growing very impatient. The older man nodded with a grunt and left the room. I slowly retreated my gaze to the other male. My eyes narrowed as he just stood there acting as if I wasn't here, swaying his arms and humming. "Well?" I said through my clenched teeth, obvious frustration lingering in my voice. The brown hair - it was more a chestnut color, actually- male grinned. His smile was bright and perfect. It was one of those smiles that made you feel all warm inside. Grinning he said, "Welcome home, Lauren."
