I Liked Normal

Shay's P.O.V

The last night Michael & I had together at my lake house, we fell asleep on the couch in front of the fire. I woke up at 6:00 in the morning, the fire dead & Michael sleeping next to me.

Waking up that morning, reality hit that this was over. Our hideaway in Lake Placid was ending. We'd both be back into the real world...a world full of triggers for me & a world of fame for him & we were going to have to learn how to live in each other's worlds too.

Once awake, I couldn't go back to sleep.

We weren't planning on leaving until around 10:00 but I couldn't fall back asleep.

My mind was just everywhere, thinking about all of the memories made, how my life with Michael was about to change, just everything going on.

I just laid there for awhile, listening to Michael sleep next to me as I thought about how much my life had changed in the past two months, basically since I met Michael.

A few hours later, he woke up.

"Hi babe, have you been up long?" He asked, his eyes still half closed, his voice groggy.

"Uhm about three hours."

"Why so long? Why didn't you wake me up?"

"It's fine, I wanted the quiet. I'm just thinking about everything."

"Awh, babe. It'll be fine."

"I know, it's still weird to think we won't wake up here tomorrow."

He just embraced me in his arms & then hugged me tight.

We laid there together for a little bit before having to get up because we had to get on the road.

Michael & I had a quick breakfast & packed the final bag into the car before I made sure the windows were closed, everything unplugged, heat on the right setting & all of those things...my dad had made me a list of what to do before leaving.

Once everything was done, it was time to go.

Michael & I stood on the rug in the middle of the living room & just hugged each other for a few minutes.

"I'm not ready to go." I whined into his chest.

"Me either but it'll be good for us to have a change of pace, a change of life, you know?"

I let a few tears fall while still hugging Michael, just taking in the last few seconds of us here together, literally the last few moments before our lives were about to change completely.

I knew it wasn't goodbye for him & I, I knew it wasn't the last time I'd be at this house but I knew it was just the last time that we'd be here in this exact situation & that was the tough part.

"We should go." Michael told me, finally saying the inevitable.

"I know."

"Hey, no tears. Okay?" He said, kissing my cheek.

He took my hand in his, I grabbed my car keys & we walked outside, me locking the door behind us.

Once in the car, I took a final look at the house & then I drove the long way around the lake, just seeing it one final time before we took the drive back to NYC.

The drive took the entire afternoon & once back at my parents place in NYC, unseen by any fans or paparazzi I might add, Michael & I had dinner with my parents before he helped me hang up all of my clothes back into my closet in my room.
