Jacob’s P.O.V

I followed Victoria’s trail all day, making sure to keep my distance so she couldn’t smell me out. She was heading up to the top of the cliff, no idea why but I would soon find out. As I followed her up I could smell something familiar on the trees and bushes. It smelt sweet, like almost fruity but with a hint of vanilla, it was Fly. Victoria was trailing Fly. I ran as fast as I could without morphing, I got to the top of the cliff and watched in horror as the fiery red head threw Fly over and ran away, fortunately not spotting me out from the woods. I would have morphed and chased her down but I knew the waves were deadly out here, I had to go in after Fly. I watched down below as I saw her burst out from the water, gasping for air as another wave crashed over her followed by another and another. I couldn’t see her anymore, I dived in around the area I saw her last and explored the waters searching for her body.

Ah there she was, just a couple metres out in front of me, just floating unconscious in the water still looking as graceful as ever. I swam as hard as I could through the lethal tide, finally! I reached for her hand and pulled her out of the water and carried her delicate figure out to shore giving her mouth to mouth as soon as I layed her down. I hesitated though, I thought about how under these circumstances it would be the first time our lips touched but I needed to save her, I couldn’t lose her!

Fly's P.O.V

I saw Bella, I felt her presence in the water for a split second and the next thing I knew my eyes fluttered opened revealing a panic-stricken Jacob as I began to splutter water out onto the sand.

“Fly, Fly can you hear me?” he fretted, but I knew the worry would stop soon enough for him to give me a lecture about how reckless I was and yadda yadda.

“What the hell were you thinking?” he hissed as he held my body closer to his.

“I wanted to see Bella, but Victoria bet her to it” I joked.

“Jacob! Take her back home!” called out Sam as he morphed and ran back up to the woods.

“The others are following her scent” he explained to me. Jake’s strong arms carried me back to the truck as he drove me home. My body temperature was still low from the freezing cold ocean, my hands numb and frozen, my lips still blue and lifeless as I shivered in the passenger seat.

“180 degrees over here” cooed Jake as he undid my seatbelt and pulled me in close, he held my hands tightly in his as he slowly warmed them up.

“Must be nice never getting cold” I manage to say through clattering teeth.

“It’s a wolf thing” he joked.

“It’s not, it’s a Jacob thing. You’re just warm” I clarify as he drove up and parked in front of my house. He didn’t move though, we stayed in the car for several moments in silence as he held me closely.

“Fly?” he whispered. “What did you mean when you said you went to go see Bella?”

“I-uh”

“You’re not putting yourself in danger because you think it will bring Bella back are you!?” he asked again, his voice rising in volume.

“It’s not as bad as it sounds”

“Fly you could have been killed!”

“But I wasn’t” I say, annunciating every word clearly as I turn to leave from the truck.

“Wait!” he instructs shutting the door closed and keeping me in the car. “There’s a vampire here, I can smell it” he explains, starting the car again ready to drive me to safety.
