12. Riley Biers Is Not The Puppeteer

“So, uh, had fun?” snickered Bella as she and Edward stood beside me.

“Yeah” I reply absent minded, still stuck in my daydream, the kiss replaying over and over in my head.

“Come on then, let’s- Edward, what’s wrong with Seth?” Bella laughed, her face soon dropping as her attention was suddenly drawn to the fretful wolf that came running to our sides.

“Jacob just arrived. It doesn’t look good” Edward began to explain as he tapped into Seth’s mind and unlocked the images of the battle.

“Jacob? Is he hurt, is he alright!?” I ask suddenly alarmed as my ears perked up to the simple spoken word of his name.

“Yes, he’s fine. Emmett’s got his back.”

“Then why do you look so worried? Who’s hurt?” I repeat, my body still on alert. The look of fear in his eyes already answered my question. No one was hurt, but either Bella or I would be and very soon. The fear in his eyes was the same kind that drove him to the Volturi when he found out that Victoria was back.

“Victoria?” Bella whispered, not daring to make a single movement.

“She’s close, I can hear her thoughts. Seth go!” Edward ordered as he grabbed both Bella and I from the wrist and pulled us in behind him in a protective manner. “She knew I wasn’t there, she couldn’t pick up on my scent. She knew that you would be with me and in turn Fly would be with you” Edward revealed.

My heart stopped and my blood froze for there she was in the flesh with her sidekick. The mysterious Riley Biers. They crept over to us slowly, every step more excruciating then the last as the snow crunched under his shoes.

“Riley, listen to me. Victoria is just using you to distract me she knows I’ll kill you, in fact she’ll be glad she won’t have to deal with you anymore” Edward tried to enlighten the obviously naïve new born but he didn’t seem to buy it. He just kept pacing towards us, his ice cold glare never fading as Victoria wrapped her hand around his.

“Don’t listen to him Riley. I told you about their mind tricks” Victoria cooed in his ear.

“I can read her mind” Edward defended, tightening his grip around Bella and I’s wrists. “I know what she thinks of you. She only created you and this army to avenge her true mate James!”

“He’s lying, I love you Riley” Victoria stated, tilting her head to emphasize the words and captivate him in the lie.

“Think about it, you’re from Forks. You know the area that’s the only reason she chose you” Edward’s words seemed to have clouded Riley’s judgement… even if it was only for a slight moment.

“You’re dead..” Riley blatantly said.

The simple words made my knees buckle, if I wasn’t frozen with fear I think I would have fainted and been killed for sure. Riley charged towards us, his red eyes grew dark as he pounced but Edward stood his ground. I was about ready to have my head ripped off or my blood sucked out but instead Seth took him out. He had been hiding, waiting for the right moment to come out and take the naïve vampire from our path. Bella’s face flushed with relief but Edward just kept his eyes locked on Victoria, he could read Seth’s mind I knew he was waiting for that.

“You won’t get another chance like this again!” shouted Edward to the fiery red head as she began to make a run for it. “You want her, you want me to feel the pain you felt when I killed James, when I tore him to pieces… when I turned him into ash” Edward hissed over Riley’s screams and pleads for help as he too was being torn to pieces. He got the reaction he wanted, Victoria’s body jerked as she pushed him to the ground and charged towards the tree where Bella and I stood wrapped in each other’s arms but Edward, being the quickest of his family, was able to stop her from getting any closer. He lurched her towards to rocks at the same time Riley had kicked Seth away and attended to her aid. Edward was outnumbered, two to one.

 There was nothing we could do except for one thing, I thought back to the night I stayed with Jacob and listened to old folk stories. The one about the woman who sacrificed her life and her blood to distract the vampires from killing came to mind. I looked around in search of a sharp rock or bark and when I finally came across one I threw it to Bella and ordered her to slit her arm.  She obliged and immediately the blood started seeping out from her gash, Edward had grown immune to her blood but Victoria and Riley… well they were still vulnerable. The released Edward and began walking towards Bella. Edward grabbed Riley and threw him to the side where Seth was patiently waiting for another bite of the new born.

“Victoria!” he yelled and pleaded but she was too busy avenging James to help her supposed soul mate Riley. Edward wasn’t going to let that happen though, he fought her off the best he could, they danced with their swift movements before they had each other in headlocks. Edward ripped her head off with one swift movement, grunting at the sudden realisation that he had finally put an end to all his troubles. He could finally be free to live his life with Bella without any further distractions. He ripped off part of her shirt and used it as a bandage for her gaping cut that still bled, she winced at the pain but felt her serenity in his eyes.

Ok so maybe seeing your sister with her boyfriend showing complete PDA in front of you is gross but at that moment it was sweet. We were safe, Bella and Edward were happy and in love and I had  Jac-JACOB!

“WE HAVE TO GET BACK TO THE OTHERS!” I exclaimed as I ran in and interrupted their moment.

“I’ll go, take Bella back home” he instructed.

“No! I need to see Jake!” I ordered.

“Alright” he agreed.

“Really?” Bella asked unsure.

“Alice needs us there… the fights over but the Volturi are on their way”

“How much time do we have!?” Edward questioned, pulling Bella along as I trailed behind them.

“About 10 minutes” Alice replied.

“WATCH OUT!” I call out as I see an fugitive new born run up behind Leah, the female werewolf. I notice Jacob’s werewolf form run out from behind the bushes as he springs to her aid and rips the vampire off her back. I gasped as I saw that same vampire escape his grip and clasp around Jacob’s torso, crushing his bones. I could physically hear them snap and I don’t even have supersonic hearing like the others.

“JACOB!” I yell sprinting to him as Carlisle was already there diagnosing the problem and telling the others how to fix it. The pain was too much for Jacob he had returned to his human form, sweat already covering every portion of him.

“The bones on the right half of his body are shattered” he examined. “Look don’t move him too much!” he enlightened the others as they came to his side.

“Fly” Jacob croaked through gritted teeth.

“Jake I’m right here, you’re going to be fine ok? Trust me!” I comfort, supressing the tears as I swept his hair from his face.

“We’ll take him back home then” Sam negotiated.

“I’ll be over as soon as I can” Carlisle reassured.

“Carlisle they’re here!” Alice warned.

I wanted to leave with them and make sure Jacob was safe but I had to stay here with my sister. I had to protect the still human Bella. I mean they couldn’t hurt me Bella made a deal with them, my life for her vampire one.
