______________________________________Jace's POV
"Jace, are you okay?" Mom asked, sitting beside me on my balcony.
"No, not really." I sigh, straightening the chair beside me for her. She seats down quietly, looking out in a distance.
I begin to do the same, looking in a distance, enjoying the silence.
Silence is peaceful.
I cherished it. Every minute of it.
Silence engulfed me in a world where only I belonged. Expressing the chaos that was in my mind as I stared into the darkness. It always seemed to be my escape.
"What's wrong sweety?" My mom whispers beside me. I take the time to look at her before bowing my head slightly.
"There's this new girl at my school." I let out. "The only black girl."
"Wasn't that the girl I was nursing the other day?" She questions.
"Yeah." I reply, looking back into the night sky. "Bianca had beaten her up."
"Ugh, her again? What is wrong with her?" She asks, clearly frustrated.
"I don't know." I say, chuckling lowly. "I just want her out of my life."
"Jace." She sighs, placing her hands on mine. I look up at her emtionless. "Don't go back there. Please. I can't loose you again. Look, I know you never want to see Bianca ever again. Heck, I don't want to see her either!"
I crack open a smile at her which causes her to smile back.
"But you know what? She's here. She's gonna be around and there's nothing you can do about it. What you can do though, is accept her. Learn to live with her despite of her being the reason as to why you are broken. And that's the thing about life, your gonna meet up with the most difficult people you've ever delt with. God bless you if you never see them again."
I laugh at her last sentence before entwining our hands.
"But I'm gonna be honest when I say this to you my son. Never let the things that hold you down to affect your future. You must keep moving forward, despite how beaten down, tired, broken, worthless or useless you may feel. Because in life, you only live once. Its too short to dwell on the things that hurt you. Take the good with the bad. Forgive while you can and I promise you when I say this Jace, you'll live a happier life."
I nod my head, hanging unto every word she said. My eyes drift back to the moonlight, taking in everything she just said.
"Thanks mom." I say sincerly, smiling at her. A real smile this time. One that reached my eyes.
"What are mom's for." She says, rubbing my back.
My eyes once again gaze upon the night sky. Smiling at the fact that I had someone to talk even in the midst of my chaos.
"So..." she trails. "About this black girl?"
"Really mom?" I chuckle, turbing my head so she doesn't see me blushing.
"Are you blushing? Oh my gosh! You are! Spill the beans!" She shouts.
"Alright alright, just keep it down." I whisper, looking in my room then back at her. She looks at me in anticiaption and I smile slightly.
"Here name is Julia. She's the most beautiful girl I've ever seen. She's shy, sweet and strong even though I can tell she doesn't know that. I've tried many times to speak to her, but she always seemed so closed off. But, I can feel it mom. The connection. I don't want to give up on her. I want her in my life. And I just know that I can give her all the love I have left inside of me."
"Jace." She says in awe. "If you feel so strongly about this girl, then why don't you give it a shot? Who knows what will happen? Maybe she's your escape. Your hero. Your healer. Grab her now before she's gone."
"I will." I nod, determination taking over me. "I don't care if she's black. From the minute I saw her in her father's car, I knew that she's the one."
"Go get her baby." She says.
I was. I was going to love this girl. I've only met her a few times and just the thought of her brought me happiness. She is my escape from this cruel world.
And I'm gonna become hers.
