I made my way outside of the venue with George, walking across the gravel to a "safe place." In other words, a place we wouldn't get caught smoking by one of the teachers.

I sit down on the stairs, my dress laying across the steps in a messy fashion but I didn't really care at this moment in time. Fishing through the pockets of George's jacket I retrieve the pouch of pre-rolled cigarettes and pass him them along with the lighter. He had insisted I wear his suit jacket so I wouldn't be cold even though I could see him shivering in the cold evening air.

He lit up both of our cigarettes before sitting down next to me, smoking in silence for a while until he decided to speak "Y'know Matty is a total dickhead, he's in there with a girl who couldn't care less about him and is making her move on all the boys whilst you're out here looking like the prettiest girl in the world all cause he won't admit his feelings." he let out, taking another drag of his smoke.

"G, just because he may not like Cerys as much as he leads on doesn't mean he likes me." I tell him, he's always going on about how much Matty likes me but I don't get it.

"Honestly I wish you two would just admit it to each other. I know you've literally grown up together and it must be weird having these feelings for each other but listen you'd have to be blind to not see that you two love each other. There's chemistry." he speaks as if he knows all, and maybe he does but I don't want to admit he's right. "And you can keep trying to fool everyone, or yourselves that you're not into each other but it's just denial." he continues.

I sigh and lean my head on his shoulder, he kisses my head before saying "I care about you both a lot, you know you're my ride or dies." I chuckle at this "All I want is to see you both happy and I know that that's when you're with each other."

"Dammit George when did you turn into Yoda?" I sigh in defeat.

"Init, it's like I'm some sort of love guru." he says jokingly.

"Thank you for coming with me tonight, you and Ross have treated me like a princess and I appreciate it. I felt kind of uncomfortable after the whole party thing and I didn't really want to come by myself." I finally admitted to someone.

"You are a princess and we love you, I'd dress up in a stupid tux every night if it made you happy, Sting. You don't need to be scared anymore, you've got us."

It goes silent again, the sound of footsteps on gravel making their way towards us. Shit, they must've caught us coming round the corner I think to myself. The footsteps stop and both George and I look up in unison seeing that it was Matty and not a teacher.

"What're you two doing out here? Its freezing." he asked, frowning at us.

"Cig break." George replied, waving his smoke at Matty. He nods as a form of realisation and then awkwardly shuffles on his feet. George and I look at each other before silently communicating through facial expressions.

George coughs and goes to stand up catching Matty's attention again. "Well m'gonna head back in, Ross and Adam are probably wondering where I am and I'm trying to steal a dance with Leah." he announces, leaning down to my eye level murmuring a simple "good luck" whilst I say the same back. Leah was the girl he fancied but she'd come with a boy herself and I knew he really wanted a dance.

He turns to Matty on his way back inside, murmuring so I couldn't hear him. Matty nodded at whatever he had said and took a deep breathe before making his way over to me.

He takes a seat on the same step as me, I decide to fully acknowledge him by reaching back into the pocket and pulling out a cigarette, he takes it gently before placing it between his lips as I lean to my side to light it. The stick becoming alight and him taking a long drag before blowing in my face.

"How's Cerys?" I decide to ask him

"Fucking awful." he lets out a fed up laugh before dragging his hand through his hair "She's trying it on with every lad in there as if I don't exist, she basically made me bring her and now she ain't bothering with me." he huffs. I could tell his ego had been deflated tonight, not only that though but I knew he wanted tonight to be special.

"I didn't tell you by the way, cause I'm a clueless twat but you look ethereal tonight, Sting." he says with sincerity in his voice.

"You and your big words." I roll my eyes at him lovingly "Thank you though M, you look very handsome." he blushed at my words. dork.

The air had only gotten colder but neither one of us made an effort to move to go back inside. We found comfort in each other and I don't think either one of us wanted to give that up yet.

Matty slid his hand into mine, something he often did. I always knew it was a sign he needed comforting or when he knew I did and at this moment I think we both needed it.

"I really wish I'd come with you. We always have the most fun with each other and at least you wear proper bloody shoes, all I've heard all night off Cerys and Mia is moaning about their feet hurting." I look down at my doc clad feet and mentally applaud myself. "Oh reminding me of that, M'really sorry about what she said to you. You're too nice to people and you look fucking beautiful and honestly you didn't have to pay for her place but yet again you wanted the best for everyone and I fucking hate that Cerys treated you awfully." Matty rants, finally stopping for air.

I took a minute to process everything he'd just said because when he starts to ramble, he speaks really fast. "You don't need to apologise for her, the comments are already forgotten and I only paid for her place because I didn't want you and the lads to stress. I'm just being the bigger person that's all. We can always crash George's prom next year like he's done ours."

"My sweet Bea, I know we don't talk about what happened but you're the bravest person I know. I never want to see you that hurt or sad again because I will beat someone up." He says, I could tell from his tone he wasn't joking. "I've been selfish and I never thought of you tonight and how it may be hard and I'm sorry. This summer is ours, we'll do whatever you want. Just like when we were little."

I nudge his shoulder, the sound of Iris by The Goo Goo Dolls echoing through the walls of the venue and into the 11pm sky. Matty stands up and dramatically kneels in-front of me in a curtsy, I take his hand and let him pull me up.

"I've still got time for a dance with my girl." the music continues and we sway back and forth, tripping over each other's feet because we're both shit dancers.

"The both of us have two left feet. Every time we end up like this, we somehow get shitter at dancing?" I point out. At this Matty dips me and I cling onto him for dear life as I erupt into a fit of laughter.

A loud rumble sounded through the sky, as rain started to pour completely drenching the two of us. I look at Matty who's hair is now in full volume of curls, the rain making them cling to his face, he looked so pretty right now.

"Our life is a fucking cliché." Matty shouts, laughing as he runs with me to the front entrance of the building, dragging me inside. The two of us swerving in and out of people on our way back to the dance floor.

We ran into the boys, they took in our appearance and just shook their heads at us. "You two look like drowned rats but yet you make it work?" Ross said.

"Sorry G but your jackets a bit wet." I apologise to him, feeling really bad.

"The rate I grow it won't fit me by next week, it's just a jacket. Don't worry, now I spotted a photo booth over there so I say we go take advantage until someone kicks us out." he suggests, we all agree and make our way over.

The rest of the night went like this, Cerys had left with a random boy in our year after Matty had told her where to go, not that she cared. Mia had left with her friends a bit earlier on which left the 5 of us.

We got a taxi back to Ross' as his family had left to go out of town for the weekend after he came over to mine. We all crashed on the floor of his bedroom eating snacks and watching films to finish off prom.
I wouldn't have it any other way.
