I was moving in somber when the song "Look Alive," came on. It was hard to "Look Alive" when your date left you for some other guy. I mean what did I expect? I did this to myself for being a dumbass in asking her out. It's not like she faked her persona/personality.
She was an actual thot. Anger built in my stomach as my head was throbbing.
Let me tell you the story. She didn't show up, and texted me she was sick, but I saw her on Anthony's Snapchat story, probably giving him a fucking blowjob.
Whore. She was suppose to be here, dancing with me. I knew I was an ugly ass guy, brown haired and super tall, with the intelligence of a moron, but I wasn't that bad to be ditched.
At least I was with my friends, who I applauded for getting and keeping their dates. Lake and Simon told me I should forget about it, and that she was in the wrong. They were right but they were standing with dates, I was happy for both of them because I played matchmaker. I guess karma doesn't seem to work.
Suddenly, I look off to the distance, and see a tiny girl, probably an underclassmen, sitting alone. People were fucking assholes, she probably didn't know who to talk to and what to do without her date. I waited a couple seconds to see if I was just overanalyzing it, if he just grabbed punch. Nope. After a few minutes, I look back and he still wasn't there.
I've noticed her before, my freshmen sister Callie, is a cheerleader, and I think they are on the same travel EOC team. She was puny, had a clear face without foundation, stunning lashes and was wearing a purple dress. Why was I complaining about being ditched? Certainly this girl didn't deserve it at all.
I had to walk up to her and get some type of conversation. She was alone and vulnerable to many Junior guys who would bully her. I decided to intervene that future by walking up to her and talking to her politely.
"Hey, what's up?"
"Will?" she asked in a terrified/astonished way.
I didn't even know this girl's name. I felt bad because I didn't know any of Callie's friends and EOC teammates.
"I'm one of Callie's best friends, Lexi," she says awkwardly.
I start to get some recollection of her. She was one of Callie's friends I remembered who was cute and pretty. But then again, she was a freshmen.
"So what are you doing here?" I ask, somewhat knowing her answer.
"Um..I" she starts to stutter, "Ja—yke C—onners -s ask—ed me o-ut to J—nior Pr—om," she says almost miss pronouncing Prom and Jake Conners so I wouldn't hear it.
But I did hear it. Jake fucking Conners. Lake and I despise that kid. There were many rumors-one that he fucked his cat and two he beat his girlfriend with a hammer. He was weird as fuck and it would make sense for him to target a freshman, somebody who doesn't know any better.
"Where is he?" my body shudders, knowing the answer to my question.
"He didn't show up, but I can't leave or be on the dance floor I'll be embarrassed," she starts to cry.
We start to stay in silence. But suddenly, the DJ says, so cliche,
"Folks get that special someone to slowdancee with you," while wiggling his eyebrows and laughing.
He gave me an idea.
"Hey, um Lexi," I pause trying to phrase it in the best way, "I know this prom has been sucking for you, but just stay for this dance, then I'll drive you to my house okay and you can hangout with Callie."
"Are you asking if you want to dance with me?" she asks timidly.
"Yes," I affirm.
"Okay, but I really don't know how to slow dance," her head droops down to the ground.
"Hey," I pick her head up with my big finger, "Just follow my lead and you'll do fine."
I go over to my friends Lake and Simon, who already have dates, Simon had a sophomore date, and Lake had Bella, his longtime crush. After seeing my bros and examining their happiness, I put my hands on her hips gently, which are cold to the touch. I can feel shivering, as if it was uncomfortable for her.
"Is this okay?" I ask her.
"Yes it's okay," she says, disappointed that I even asked that question.
"Okay, now you put your hands on my shoulders, and just sway back and forth," I direct her.
I tower her excessively, as I have to bend down a little for her to get my shoulders. Her touch was really relaxing, as we sway back and forth. I never let go, but for some reason, she stuffs her head into my chest. I start to increase my hold on her hips, so still with a gentle touch, but more in a protective way.
"I'm sorry if this is weird," she mumbles through my suit.
"No, it's not," I reassure her.
Then comes a moment of silence. The music keeps on playing, delightful as it is, I forget all of what happened before dancing with Lexi. I start to forget my anger of Madeline ditching me.
"I'm sorry Conners didn't show up," I reassess my grip on her, "I'm just here to give you the experience you wanted, you don't have to thank me okay?"
I can faintly feel a smile through my suit. Finally the song is over. I let her have a few seconds and then she finally brings her head up. When I come in contact with her, we both start to stare deeply at each other a few seconds. Finally, I break the whole entire silence.
"You want me to drive you to my house to hangout with my sister?" I put a hand through my hair, realizing after how weird that question could be if you didn't have context.
"Yeah," she says.
I wave goodbye to my friends and dates, who are genuinely confused on why I'm leaving and take Lexi to the exit. Her little arms start to shake when she goes outside, it was starting to get dark outside and she didn't have a coat. She runs all the way to my car, I didn't even know how she knew it, waiting for me to unlock the car door.
As I unlock it she shivers, and seems like she is distressed.
"I cannot hang out with Callie like this," she points at her purple dress.
She starts using her makeup towels and ripping her lashes off, revealing her face without makeup. She was still fucking beautiful either way.
"I have some clothes in the trunk," I offer, "you can change in the trunk."
She walks over to me with to the back of the car. I opened the trunk, and fish out my comfortable sweatpants and shirt from Rockwell High's soccer team. In the back, it said my name, "Will McCarthy," as it was a shirt for us winning the championship last year.
"Here." I say giving her the wardrobe.
It probably would be big on her, as I was a super tall and big guy. She tells me she's about to change and my eyes look away. No peeking. Don't be disrespectful. She's already scared of Juniors like you.
Finally, she puts the clothes on and as I expected it swallowed her entire body whole, like something from a thrift store.
"Callie is gonna know this is your clothes!" she exclaims.
"So what if she knows that," I say, "it's not my fault she gets jealous because of how lonely she is," I smirk.
"Hey!" she elbows me in the gut, which hurts even though she is a small one.
