"let's go on a date, or something." sam blurts out of nowhere as i drive home from school with him. it was friday, shey was hanging out with her family for the night. chad and andrea were also hanging out with each other.
"when?"
"tonight." he shrugs. "i'll even drive." he says.
"wow, you? driving? never!" i sarcastically stated, rolling my eyes as i pull into my driveway. "come on, you always drive." he wines.
i unbuckled my seatbelt, "because i'm a great driver." i smile at him, climbing out of the car. i grabbed my bag from the back seat, throwing it over my shoulder.
sam grabs his bag, also getting out of the car. he walked over to my side, "come on, please." he pouts.
i sighed, "fine. only because i want a break from driving."
he smiles, "ill be over at 6, i gotta plan this." he says.
i chuckle, "you really don't have to." i tell him, he shrugs. "i know, but if we get some good pics out of this, people will believe it. also, i like going on dates with you."
i smiled, "okay."
he pecks my cheek, then turns to walk to his house across the street. i turn on my heels, walking up into my house. i greeted my mom in the kitchen, "hi, mom."
she quickly wrote something down on her piece of paper, looked up at me and took off her glasses. "hi, sweetie. how was school?"
i shrug, "it was alright."
"any plans for tonight?" she asks, smirking to herself. i roll my eyes, laughing slightly. "sam wants to go on a date tonight."
she gasps, smiling, "yes! that's so cute." she pinches my cheeks. tuesday night, sam and i announced to my parents that we were 'dating'. my mom was beyond excited, but my dad... well, you know how dad's are.
-
i hop down the stairs in a tight t-shirt dress, seeing sam standing with my father. they were indistinctly talking about something, and i was curious. "hello, boys." i skipped over to the two.
"nothing." sam shook his head with a smile on his lips. "you ready?" he asks.
"yep, how do i look?" i twirled in a circle as a joke, "beautiful." he replied.
my dad smiles, "you kids have fun." then his face turns serious, his voice stern. "not too much fun."
i saluted him, "yes, sir."
sam and i exit my house together, his black bmw sat in my driveway, next to my black, matte jeep. we climb into the car, and he drives off. "where are we going?" i ask.
"as your best friend, i've noticed you've never been on a real date." he starts, taking a quick glance at me then back at the road. "i'm taking you out for dinner, then we're gonna go out for some ice cream."
i smile over to him, pinching his cheeks. "aw, you're cute."
"and this is all on me, so i don't want you to pay. i'll be really mad at you, if you do." he says. i rolled my eyes, but nodded nonetheless
"okay, fine. next 'date' we go on, i'm paying." i told him and he sighed, "i guess that's fair." i smiled, knowing i wont let him pay.
"perfect."
-
after eating at the restaurant, which was really good food by the way, i got steak. he drove us down town to the drive in. "okay, so i know how much you love old, cheesy movies. i thought, maybe we could go see one?"
"it's, uh- breakfast at tiffany's. i think." he muttered, pulling into a parking spot in front of the large screen in front of us. "i love that movie."
he nodded, "i know. i remember you telling me in 7th grade, about how much you loved it. i didn't know if you still did, so i asked your mom, yesterday. she said to take you here, is that okay?"
"dude," i looked over to him, narrowing my eyes at him. "this is perfect. i've never been on a date before. this is beyond perfect." i leaned over to kiss his cheek, but he turned his head and his lips met mine.
i instantly pulled back, "sorry, i meant to kiss your cheek." i laughed awkwardly.
he only smiled, then shook his head. "why do you act so awkward around me, lately?"
i curled my eyebrows forward, "what do you mean?"
he shrugs, "i don't know- like, whenever i kiss you, you're awkward after. i mean, in school you're fine, but when we're alone, you're weird. i mean, if you don't wanna pretend to date, and it makes you feel weird, we don't have to. i can just tell karen-"
i cut him off, "sam, i don't have a problem. it's just like you're acting like we're actually dating. i've grown up with you, we never kissed and did stuff like that. it's kinda new to me, i guess." i shrugged.
he purses his lips and nods, "okay."
