That was the first time I ever felt happy in my entire life, the day I met my brother, Andrew Biersack, and the rest of Black Veil Brides. My life wasn’t always the best though. Before I met Andy I was just another person in my family. A family who didn’t care about me, but was paid to keep quiet about my adoption. The only person I could trust was my brother, Dylan. He didn’t share the same interests as me, but it didn’t matter because he was the only one I could turn to when my ‘dad’ hit me.

“Olivia!” called my ‘father’ from downstairs.

I ran down so he wouldn’t get angry, “Yes?” I said tentatively.

“Why did I find this under your bed?” he asked, holding up a Black Veil Brides CD.

I just stared at the CD, saying nothing. I knew he hated it when I listened to music like that but I couldn’t help it. Music got me through everything and I couldn’t live without it.

“Well?!” he slapped me across the face, sending me flying into the wall next to me. I could feel my eyes prickling with tears as the pain on my cheek started to set in. I blinked them away and stood up.

“Those bands, that one in particular, make life in this house seem a little less terrible.” I said. I knew it was dangerous to mouth off to my ‘dad’ but I figured he was going to hit me whether I said anything or not. I had nothing to lose.

That night went like so many others; hitting, kicking, and some more hitting. After he had finished he threw the CD at me and told me to go to my room. I ran straight there and when I opened the door Dylan was sitting on the bed. I rushed into his arms and allowed the tears that threatened to spill earlier fall down my face. My brother just sat there holding me, knowing that nothing he said would ever make me feel better. A moment later my sister, Amanda, opened the door. She took one look at us and entered the room, closing the door behind her. She wasn’t very good at comforting people, but just having her there helped a little and she knew it. So she stayed for a while and then left. Dylan, however, stayed with me the whole night.

A minute later I was back on the tour bus with the guys. I noticed my cheeks were damp with tears and my hand was on my face, where my ‘father’ had hit me that night. That had been the last time my ‘dad’ had hit me. The very next day my mother convinced my ‘dad’ to finally tell me I was adopted and show me my birth certificate. As soon as I figured out whose signature was on it, I went online and looked up when the next Black Veil Brides concert was. I asked my sister to drive me since Dylan would be in school. He was a senior in high school. Now, I know what you’re thinking: Why is she not in school if she’s only seventeen?

I graduated my junior year because I skipped a grade when I was younger. So I guess you could say that I’m smart.

So Amanda drove me all the way from Louisiana to Georgia so I could meet my real brother.

I looked around to see that the rest of the boys were playing video games. They had their backs facing me so they hadn’t seen me silently crying.

“Andrew?” I said.

He turned around to face me, “Yeah Olivia?”

“What happens now?”

“Well…I guess you could come on tour with us or you could stay with my- I mean our mom.”

“Wait, shouldn’t you be in school or something?” said Jake.

I shrugged, “Graduated a year early.”

“Oh…So you’re like really smart?”

“I guess you could say that. Although I wouldn’t call it ‘really smart.’ I would probably just call it intelligent. But whatever floats your boat.”
