I woke up and turned over to see Andy’s sleeping face staring back at me. I smiled as a remembered the events of last night.
As quietly as I could I removed myself from Andy’s hold and got dressed for my brother’s funeral that would take place later that day. After I had finished getting dressed I tried to wake up Andy. I knelt down next to the bed and shook his arm.
“Andy, wake up.”
I got no response so I shook his arm a bit harder.
“Andy, get up.”
Still, I got nothing.
Suddenly, I got an idea.
I smiled to myself as I walked into the kitchen area and grabbed a cup of ice cold water. I walked over to Andy’s sleeping form and dumped the water on his face. He yelled and shot up. All the while I was laughing my ass off.
“What was that for?!”
I shrugged, “You wouldn’t wake up.”
“So? You didn’t have to do that.” He huffed.
I just grinned and kissed his cheek, “Get dressed. We have to leave in 45 minutes.”
I went into the living room area where there was a TV and turned it on; although I wasn’t really watching it. I was mostly thinking about Dylan. My smile faded and my face became blank as I subconsciously hid my emotions from the world.
Suddenly, my phone buzzed. It was a text from Ashley asking if I could come to his and Jinxx’s room. I said I would and grabbed my shoes. I yelled where I was going to Andy through the bathroom door and left. I walked down the hall and knocked on the door. It opened to reveal a half dressed Ashley.
“Hey.” I said.
“How are you?”
I sighed, “I’ve been better and I’ve been worse. But at this point, I’m just not sure anymore.”
He smiled sadly and pulled me in for a hug which I gladly accepted. When we pulled apart he motioned for me to come inside. When he shut the door behind me, he walked to the bed and pulled on a shirt. I noticed that Jinxx wasn’t here.
“Where’s Jinxx?” I asked.
“Oh, he’s in the lobby talking to Sammi.”
“Oh ok. So what’s up?”
“I just wanted to see if you were okay. Despite what you may think, you matter Olivia. You matter to all of us. We all think of you as family, not just Andy.”
I managed a smile and gave Ashley another hug.
“Thanks Ash. It really means a lot to hear that.” I whispered against his chest.
I pulled away and we just talked for a while. About ten minutes had gone by when we heard the door open. I looked over to see Jinxx walk through the door.
“Hey, how’s Sammi?” I asked.
“She’s good. She’s feels terrible for not being able to be here, but she offers her condolences.”
“Well, tell her I said thank you and that I understand completely.”
“Will do. And how are you?”
“Honestly, I don’t really know. I guess I just need some time to get used to the fact that he’s gone and never coming back. It’s just hard, you know?”
“Believe me, I know. We’re all here for you, you know that right?”
I smiled, “Yeah, I do. Thanks. You have no idea what it means to hear you say that. Seriously.”
