I woke up to the smell of bacon hitting my nostrils. It smelled so good, my Stomach started to growl loudly. I slowly got out of bed, slipping on my slides then I made my way towards the kitchen. Nas was sitting at the table coloring in his coloring book while mom was at the stove flipping pancakes. "Good morning guys." I said as I took a seat at the kitchen table. "Breakfast is Smelling good mama." She chuckled, "I knew the smell of food was gonna wake your ass up." I laughed. "You know I love food." Mom nodded before handing nas and I a plate of bacon, eggs and pancakes. "Ohhh yeahh." I chuckled to myself as I rubbed my hands together. I grabbed the bowl of fruit and began putting strawberries on my pancakes, then I grabbed the can of whipped cream and syrup and poured them on my pancakes at the same time. "Perfect." I smiled, then I grabbed my forked and took a big bite. "Stop eating like you never ate before girl." Mom said hitting me with the dish towel softly. I chuckled with a mouth full of food. Mom glared, "I didn't raise you like you were born in a barn, close your damn mouth." She said and I did what I was told. She smiled, "so you excited about today." She asked me. "Yeah, it's día de los muertos." I smiled. "I can't wait to eat all the authentic Mexican food abuelita and tía geny makes." I said And mom chuckled while shaking her head. "All you think about is food." I shrugged, smiling sheepishly.

After breakfast and a nice long shower, I was now in my room trying to pick out an outfit for today. After 10 mins of me deciding on a outfit. I decided on this ⬇️

I tied my hair into a messy bun, then I applied lipgloss to my lips before grabbing my phone and headed out of my room. I walked into the living room where mom was tying nas shoes for him. "Ready?" Mom asked me and I nodded. "Alright, lets go." Mom smiled as she took nas's hand and headed towards the door.

"Hey guys." Ruby smiled as he opened the door for us. "You know..you guys don't always have to knock. You can just come in." He chuckled and Mom and I smiled at him while we nodded. "Noted." I said as I walked inside. "Everyone's outback." Ruby said as he walked past me and lead the way to the backyard. Their were decorations everywhere- marigolds, sugar skull decors, candles. Mariachi music was playing and There were food on the table even sugar skull shaped treats.

the kids were running around with sugar skull face paint on their faces. Luís and Luisa ran up to us. "Nassy do you wanna get your face painted like ours?" Luisa asked. "Yeah!" Luis chimed in and nas nodded his head vigorously. "Mama can I!?" "Of course you can." Mom said and nas quickly took off with the twins. "You came!" Abuelita smiled as she approached us. "We wouldn't miss it." Mom replied as she pulled her into a hug. Then abuelita hugged me, "did you bring it?" She asked and I nodded. Pulling my dads photo out of my purse. Abuelita smiled softly then began leading me over to the ofrenda. I sighed, placing his picture in the empty spot. "I don't know if he's gone or not, but if he is I would want his spirit to cross over so he can visit us." I bit my lip as I stared at his picture, trying to hold back tears. Mom sighed pulling me into her. "I miss him mama." I mumbled. "I know you do baby." Mom whispered.  I felt a hand touch mine and I looked over to see ruby. He smiled at me "You wanna dance?" Ruby said. I smiled, "sure." He pulled me over to the dance floor and placed his hand on my hip while the other was holding my hand, I placed my free hand on his shoulder and we started dancing. "I didn't know you knew how to dance rubes." I said. "Honey, I know how to do everything." He said and I chuckled. "I know what you're trying to do." "I'm not trying to do anything." He smiled. I shook my head and smiled at him, "Your trying to take my mind off my dad." I said, his smile turned into a sheepish one. "Thank you." I pecked his cheek. "Anything for you." He said.

"This is tamales, try it." Ruby said as we stood by the table of food. I took a bite out of it and moaned out in delight. "It's so good!" I said and he chuckled as I stacked two more tamales on my plate. "And you have to try This, it's concha." He said placing one on my other plate that had desert on it. "Oh! And hot chocolate pie." "And horchata It's soo good!" "Ruby." I said And he hummed. "I think your trying to fatten me up." I replied and he chuckled. "I don't know how I'm gonna carry all this." I chuckled. "Here I'll help you." Ruby grabbed one of my plates and we walked over to a table. We both
Took a seat. "I see you've been avoiding Olivia." I said as I watched her talk to jamal and Monse. "I'm not avoiding her. Im just-" "avoiding her?" I said again. Ruby sighed, "I'm just done throwing myself at her, I'm over getting rejected. It's called self-respect, I'm only into girls who are into me." He said and I nodded. "Good for you. You deserve better." I told him, he smiled. "I do, Don't I?" He nodded, I chuckled. "Yes you do primo." "Anyway where is cesar." I said. "Oh, Cesar is with Oscar. They celebrate dia de los muertos by paying their respects to the santos who aren't with us anymore." Ruby said. I nodded. "Hey baby, you doing okay?" Mom asked me as her, tia geny and abuelita approached us. Taking a seat at our table. "I'm doing great. Just spending time with my cousin." I said gesturing to ruby. She nodded, "I'm glad your doing okay." I smiled softly at her. I was doing okay. I may have lost one family member (my father) but I gained more family. A bigger family. I watched everyone talk and laugh with one another. Enjoying each other's company, the twins and nas were running around while playing with sparklers. Monse, Jamal and Olivia pulled up more seats to our table and started conversating with everyone, I smiled to myself.
I would kill for them all.
I would die for them all.
